6wheeler 661 #51 Posted October 19, 2019 Nice plot. Great pics too. I have seen several does here. Lots of corn and beans around me yet. I bowhunt over my plot. It is just 40' wide and 70' long with 2 pie pumpkin hills planted on one end. I learned from my neighbor, that Deer and Elk really like pumpkins. He raises Elk. I grow pumpkins in the gardens but have never left them out after the season. I have always given him the leftovers. I tried the pie pumpkins last year. I watched as the deer worked the plot. The waited until the pumpkins were a little over ripe and stomped on them and ate them all up. With the winter peas and radish and buckwheat mix I use, we have deer showing up here all winter too. And in case anyone was wondering? They do not bother my gardens. I tell my wife, "We must have enough other stuff here for them". Headed North tomorrow to hunt the lease in Cameron Co. We made the deer camp meal this afternoon. Deer steak, gravy and biscuits. We did take 2 bucks and 6 doe and one guy missed a bear at 20 yds. when his inline muzzle loader failed to fire ...3 times. Nothing came home with me but memories and a few pictures. The bucks were just not in rutt. I'll try again in 2 weeks. While checking a new area, I found some iron. It's clear this was a sawmill. This was about 1/4 mile from the sawmill. I went outside last night to put some wood in the fire and came about 15 yards from a buck bedding in the middle of my front yard! I paused, he stood up slow, did his hissing/blow warning, then I backed back into the house to show Mrs. P, but by then he was gone. Pullstart 64,368 #57 Posted November 7, 2019 I haven’t even shot my bow yet, so I figure I might as well wait until next week for shotgun season. I slung a few bits of lead at the swinging targets today and was a bit high and right. I’m now as close as the shooter can get the gun. I did have a pic on the trail camera that is interesting. I'll pull the SD and post the pic next trip. Ed Kennell 40,237 #60 Posted November 10, 2019 I just checked the cam at the lower stand where I saw the buck last night. The lower stand is below the green fenced pasture in the middle of this picture. The doe and buck were there at midnight and 3:30AM this morning. If they show up in the daylight tomorrow or Tue., he may be in trouble. I'll be in that stand until I leave for the North on Wed. Since I won't be using it, I removed the pumpkin patch stand. Pullstart 64,368 #62 Posted November 15, 2019 First light I dropped this guy. I can’t tell if he’s the 8 in the trail cam or not but he’s got tall tines... I’m sitting for a while to see what else might come in. He was in pursuit of a doe in my tall grass, I heard him grunting every 5-10 seconds. It took a few responses from me to stop him for a shot. So I raked up a 5 gallon bucket of them and dumped a pile by my feeder, and spread some along a trail along with some corn. A small 4 pt buck stood at the feeder for 20 minutes eating at the acorn pile. About 5:45 this fella trotted thru at the edge of the field. He found the acorn/corn trail and came my direction. We have a restriction that a bucks horns have to be 13" wide inside (outside the ears). He measured 14-1/2", 10pt, first 10 pt I've taken at the farm in about 15 years. Saw a couple little guys this morning but waiting for something bigger. Pullstart 64,368 #70 Posted November 16, 2019 This morning’s hunt was a flop before I even hit the tree. I was about 10 yards from the tree in really crunchy snow and soil from the cold snap and I ran something big off from my plot. I didn’t like the sound of the ground from the start, but I wanted to sit anyway. I have a feeling the deer took all it’s friends along for the run, I just got a face full of cold wind and nothing but a baby bunny hopping around. A coworker of my wife has a 17 year old son who really wants to hunt but hasn’t ever had the property to do so. State land hunting is borderline unsafe from the saturation of hunters. Too many people get shot by trigger happy fools. He’s coming out today for an afternoon hunt, so I’ll set him up in one of my stands and hope for his satisfaction of a successful day! Ed Kennell 40,237 #74 Posted November 17, 2019 WTG guys. Some nice bucks there. I just got home from northern Pa where I finished the Pa bow season. I saw quite a few bucks and passed a bow shot on a couple. I spent most of the time in a blind overlooking one of our food plots. I rattled in a couple buck inside the 40Yd range and let them walk, but unfortunately had the bow in hand instead of the camera. Doe were always on the feed. I did have a close encounter with this guy. Elk season was last week. When I got this buck on the cam 300yds from the house last week, my standards rose quite a bit. Pullstart 64,368 #75 Posted November 18, 2019 This is why we do what we do! We started processing today, we decided we’ll make a whole bunch of burger. I just couldn’t hack the back straps into burger, so I tossed some in the fridge for some steak and eggs, steak and burgers, steak and steak, or anything else. Oh yeah, steak and bacon! This is the first batch.
