We got a real problem here Ed... doe everywhere... and everyone wants the bucks... fewer hunters... equals overpopulation... i have 6 doe and two bucks (8 and 14 pt) in my suburban neighborhood everyday... no shoot area for miles... I take a different approach. I take doe... hunt for management and meat...
Pullstart 62,924 #329 Posted November 8 I’d be tickled pink for a big doe to walk in. I’d be on her in a second, no questions asked. I just haven’ hard the chance to get close yet, but the weather will change, the rest of the corn will come down, and things will pick up. As for this buck, I made a call and a processor has an opening tonight. He’ll have packaged meat for me in the morning. I’ve got some stuff that’s coming up, and this won’t rush me. He charged me $75 last year for a buck, processed any way I wished and vacuum packed. I gladly gave him $100 and invited him to hunt a day at my place. 2
Pullstart 62,924 #330 Posted November 13 It’s 31 degrees out, feels like 23. There is a slight breeze from east to west. I don’ know if that means east wind or west wind. It’s moving west. NW of me they finally cut the corn last night. Just at dusk I saw 6 does migrating towards my grassy field, first I’ve seen a herd moving all season! New bucks showed up on camera last night. It’s Wednesday. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow and Friday is gun opener. It might be my last day to hunt archery season!

These old bones don't like the cold anymore. I took an old friend for his first cataract surgery yesterday. A 25 mile trip from Felton to Harrisburg and saw 11 road killed deer on the way. They are on the move. My sister and BIL just hit one that totaled their new 2024 GMC Traverse. The air bags blew and saved them from any injury as it came thru the windshield. Leaving tomorrow for a few days of turkey hunting on their farm in the mountains. Good luck with the stick and string Kev. Be safe when the lead slingers start to hunt.
Pullstart 62,924 #332 Posted November 13 Fun morning! I called a broken rack buck in from 320 yards. I thought too long and he passed me by. I probably should have taken him, and tagged out my buck allowance for the year! Oh well. Here’s some recap videos of my hunting season so far this year…
Pullstart 62,924 #338 Posted November 14 I have goals! This guy was 30 yards from my tree this afternoon at 2:00 pm. He bedded down. I stalked all the way to my platform. Then his doe jumped up and blew the whole thing. I’ve never seen such a big deer on my property. Tomorrow opens gun deer. I’m ready.
adsm08 2,095 #339 Posted November 15 Good grief Kevin, it looks like you are overrun. I'm pulling the boy from school a little early tomorrow and my dad and I are taking him out to our camp out west for the weekend. Dad took a ~200 lb 8 point last week out there. Hoping the boy can get his first deer. I'm planning to do some turkey hunting.
Pullstart 62,924 #340 Posted November 15 @adsm08 That sounds like a great hunt camp! We don’t have any hunting traditions here, except my uncle and his buddy show up later than I’d like them to, they get out of their blinds earlier than I’d hope for, and his buddy generally buys breakfast at the local greasy spoon around 11 am as a thanks for allowing them to the field every year. They will hunt like that a few days to a week, and when they are finished coming out is usually when I shoot something Honestly, I believe the problem neighbor that I’ve dealt with for the past handful of years had been poaching so long, I will be amazed how the hunt improves since he passed away this summer.

It's a roughly 55 acre plot with woods and field, and a stream, well off the beaten path in western PA. Its pretty rare that we go out there and don't come home with something. Year before last dad went out for Spring Gobbler and did not get one, but when he got there on the evening before the season started he checked the trail cam we leave in the camp there had been 15 of them right there in camp.
Pullstart 62,924 #342 Posted November 15 I haven’t stopped to look back at the film, but I missed a buck with the smoke pole this morning. It was a calm, steady easy shot. 47 yards. Antlers outside the ears. 7:15 am I called him in with The Can doe bleat from about 150 yards. Only deer I’ve seen today.
Pullstart 62,924 #343 Posted November 18 I got this 6 point tonight 3 minutes before shooting light was up. Buck tagged out! 2
Pullstart 62,924 #344 Posted November 22 I never saw this during my sit! Sometimes I’m glad to go back and research actions and activities!
Pullstart 62,924 #346 Posted November 22 This one is receiving quite a few views. Learning more about behavior, I am questioning whether I’d have been better off waiting this out until gun season the next morning! As mentioned, this is my first year actively hunting archery season. Sure, I’ve sat a time or two before far from any action, and with no real knowledge of bow vs crossbow vs gun hunting. I’ve still got a lot to learn.
Pullstart 62,924 #347 Posted November 22 And then there’s my pride that got in the way. I was very adamant that I hunt gun season muzzleloader only. I still want to take a deer with the ole’ smoke pole. But I did take my 6 point with the .450 Bushmaster the other night. Thanks for the harsh wisdom, Mrs. P! Thanks for the harsh wisdom, Mrs. P! there have been a handful of comments on the muzzleloader buck video of opening day, saying something was screwy with the charge. Moisture, or something funky. I agree that it sounded funny, but then again I don’t shoot muzzleloader as often as I shoot other guns.
Pullstart 62,924 #350 Posted November 26 We got the 6 point all processed up, and in the freezer. It’s all seasoned and ready to pull out for a cookout! 1 1
