Thrashing Trout trans gears grinding

Thrashing Trout

I have a Wheel Horse 1972 Commando that I have been working on. Problem: When I depress the brake/clutch pedal down, there is good slack in the drive belt, but the transmission pulley is still spinning at a good clip and so I can't put it into a gear because of that without stripping gears or breaking gear teeth.

Please help, any thoughts on a solution?

There is a tab on the belt guard too that

could be out of adjustment. Check the

manual section for that adjustment.

It supports the belt and forces it forward away from the engine pulley.

All, thanks for the info about the belt guard and the tab on the belt guard. I did not have belt guard on. Will do that and adjust the metal tab to see if those solve my problem. Thanks again!

That tab should be about 1/4" or less to the belt when the tension is on.  :orcs-cheers:
