New tires

The little lady got me a set of tires as a present and you can see they are a bit out of shape .  I remember a thread about this and tried the search.   But dealing with tires the results are endless. What can I do to get them usable for mounting. Thanks

I've never tried it but I believe if you leave them out in the sun a while they will recover some. Then mount them and it may be a bit of a fight to get the bead to catch but once they do things will be fine.

I have put tubes in tires and inflated them, then put them in the sun.

I’ve done it with great results!  Just take out the valve stem to deflate and you’re good to go!

Great idea...just curious - if you already have a tube and go to the trouble of inflating etc. why not just go with tubes installed and call it good?

I think what Richard is saying is put the tubes in the tires before putting the tires on the rims. And leave them out in the sun.

I've cut some scraps of 2 x 4 lumber a little longer than the width of your rims.Stick them between the beads of the tires to spread them apart.Leave them overnight.Mount on the rims in the morning.I've done this on car and truck tires too when I couldn't catch  the beads when trying to air up new tires.Works for me.

I've done the same thing but it took much longer than overnight.  Some tractor tires are extremely stiff, and very distorted, so they take a long time to relax into the proper shape.

I'm giving Richard's suggest a try. With just a tube inside the tire, that wasn't enough to get it to the shape it needed to be.  So I added some plastic pails to the center of the tubes  and helped quite a bit, now, time will tell.

Looks like those should settle out fine.

Will you be removing the tubes for installation?

The tubes will save your rims from rusting with the fluid fill.

Looks like a good idea,but if I tried  that,I'd have to hide them in my shop...….The Squaw would probably fill them with dirt and plant flowers in them thinking they're some kind of planter.Haha.

I'll leave them like that for probably a week.  I've got the rims to clean up and paint yet anyways, so I'm in no great hurry to get them mounted.  I did let the air off last night on one of the tires, and it obviously wasn't a long enough amount of time, or they didn't get warm enough in the sun. Either way, I'll let them stay for whatever amount of time it takes.

I’ve seen a video and have done it myself with using a bucket with a towel around the rim of the bucket to help inflate the tire. Although that was with 8” rims. Not sure if the 5 gallon pal is big enough for the 12” rim. I will see if I can find the video.
