Jim Pickett 1 #1 Posted July 26, 2019 Hello I have a 1967 Wheel Horse 1077 tractor that has a Hydro problem and I will try to describe the problem It has little to no power in reverse and in forward it doesn't seem to have the power it should and also when the engine in not running you can push it around also I have tried to put in another towing valve screw in it and it seems to seat like it is suppose to seat, Also I am wondering if there might be a problem in the Hydro Motor causing this problem. So if there might be someone that might have any Ideas about my problem please drop me a note and let me know and any help would be appreciated and welcomed because I want to get this hydro working better than it is now . Thank you, Jim Pickett
daveoman1966 3,762 #3 Posted July 26, 2019 Yours looks like this...RIGHT? That unit is essentially the Sundstrand HYDRO-GEAR and ...since it is 52+ yrs old....likely has worn out internal components. Over the years, sofr brass internal parts get scratched and oil HIGH pressure is lost thru those minute scratches, resulting in power loss. The only cure is to pull the complete Hydro-Gear and resurface the internal compomnents with fine grit sandpaper. I've overhauled many of these and it is not difficult...just meticulous and time consuming. You'll likely find brass parts scored like this: ...as well as others. Jim Pickett 1 #4 Posted July 30, 2019 Hello Yes that is the hydro that I have and what is the best way to hold down the part's to begin the resurface and is there some sort of process that you have to do to make it come out to work right again and also why would it be so easy to push while the towing valve is still screwed in all the way ? Thanks, Jim
daveoman1966 3,762 #5 Posted July 30, 2019 JIM... I can surely help you with this, but I'd also like to move this to regular emails as it is MUCH easier for me to manage in that format. I often lose contact with members on this Red Sq forum as I don't watch it daily. In any case....just send me an email and i will capture your email address. Then I will present to you the process of refurbishing the power unit. My emails is: daveoman@windstream.net
