Firebug 267 #1 Posted July 24, 2019 I put a new pto to deck belt on today. 1/2x97 for the rd deck. I have the attach o magic adjusted all the way out, there is still a lot of slop in the belt to where it will come occ the deck pulley. Any thoughts?
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #2 Posted July 24, 2019 Sounds like the belt is alittle long.
tunahead72 2,411 #3 Posted July 24, 2019 Agreed. What tractor and mower are you talking about?
Firebug 267 #4 Posted July 24, 2019 314-8 with a 42 inch rear discharge
lynnmor 7,302 #5 Posted July 24, 2019 Are you sure that the deck is mounted properly in the mid hitch? The fork should be straddling a pin.
Firebug 267 #6 Posted July 24, 2019 It is. I just mowed with it the other day with no issues. The new belt is a hare shorter than the old one, I figured that was the stretch in the belt from use
tunahead72 2,411 #7 Posted July 24, 2019 I'm starting to think @lynnmor is on to something... I just did a quick check of the 42" rear discharge decks that were available for the 314-8, and came up with the 05-42MR03 in 1985 and the 78350 in 1993-2001. Both of these specify drive belt #108834, 1/2"x98". So, what belt did you just install? And is this a new problem since you installed it, or was there a similar problem with the old belt? Also, what engine does your tractor have? It should be a Kohler, either K321, Magnum14 or Champion14. I don't know if it makes a difference, but it might help. rmaynard 15,428 #8 Posted July 24, 2019 Do you have the belt in the correct PTO position?

Firebug 267 #10 Posted July 24, 2019 It’s a 93 with the magnum 14. I put on a 1/2x97 which I was told is the belt in another post I had on there. It is on the inside groove on the pto.

This doesn't compute. 1
daveoman1966 3,745 #12 Posted July 24, 2019 The belt MUST be in the INNER MOST 'V' of the PTO pulley. I bet that is the problem. If not that, maytbe the deck isn't mounted correctly...OR T two pulleys on the front Mule Driver...the Flat Idler and the V pulley are wrong. They should be about 4" diameter. Ed Kennell 38,024 #13 Posted July 24, 2019 (edited) I'll take a guess that the belt is not on one of the mule drive pulleys. Edited July 24, 2019 by Ed Kennell

Ed Kennell 38,024 #15 Posted July 25, 2019 (edited) Just wondering......Is the new shorter belt still too long? Could the old belt be a 5/8" and the new one 1/2"? Edited July 25, 2019 by Ed Kennell
Tonyp 284 #16 Posted July 27, 2019 also check the round shaft rod ( side to side ) on the tach-o-matic mount that the tension adjustment screw secures against, make sure it's not bent backwards slightly. . This is NOT uncommon.
