Belt tensioner adjustment

Hi,  so I think this is the last issue with my conversion of the deck from a vertical engine machine to use on my 71/72 Workhorse 800. The deck I am converting is a 05-36XRO1.   I rerouted the belt tensioner to work with the horizontal drive but there is no way the belt will fit.  The diagrams of the 05-36xR01 shows only one tapped hole the tension pulley can fit into BUT the diagram from a horizontal machine (deck 05-36MR05) shows two holes the pulley can be set into and it shows that the pulley should be in the hole nearest the spring.  I need to drill and tap mine to move the pulley back a bit so the belt will fit BUT with enough tension so everything works as should.  I want to get this right on the first try if possible.  Otherwise I may end up drilling a few holes to get the tension right!

FORGOT TO ASK ;  Does anyone have the distance from the square end of the tension bar of the holes the idler pulley could go into?

If you want to use an existing belt, I would assemble the tension bar on the deck. Then use the belt and pulley to locate the proper hole location on the bar by scribing the hole thru the pulley.  Do this with the bar positioned at each end of the of the slot.  Then drill the hole between the two scribed holes.   Or go to TSC and buy  the belt that fits the existing hole.  You can buy several length belts and return the ones you don't need.  Just keep the belts and the sleeves clean.

Thanks Ed!  Appreciate the advise on finding the correct position.  As I just bought a new WH branded belt I'll locate another position for the idler pulley.  Thanks again!

The 05-36MR05 used bar no.106120 thar fits a lot of different decks (50 or 60). I have a 42" deck in about the right year range but the deck no. was missing when I got it. I think it was a deck for the 300 and 400 series tractors but it was on a 1989 520-H.  Give a mesurement from the edge of the slotted hole to the center of the treaded hole. If that matches mine I'll give you the center to center of the treaded holes. If you select " More Information " is give all the decks it fits.

Thanks for the input! Got me thinking that I don't have the correct idler support bar to simply change it's position. I searched the manuals on Red Square and found the manual 05-36YR01 (without stack pulley and double pulley on center blade) which is the same deck as my 05-36XR01(with stack pulley).  I have idler support bar 105860 from the XR01 deck and need idler support bar 106120 to convert to the double pulley YR01 deck.  I did drill another hole in my bar that matched the distance that is on the bar from my 42" deck.  Still will not quite move enough to get the belt on!  The issue seems to be the rear most oblong slot that the  spacer bushings slide in that keeps pressure on the belt.  I have plenty of room on the front most oblong slot but hit the end of the rear slot before I can get the belt on.  I am reluctant to drill another hole in the deck to properly fit the rear bolt as it would be only an inch or less from the current hole.  I would buy a different size belt but feel the length of adjustment is still very tight due to the rear slot. So I was thinking of taking my angle grinder and making the rear oblong slot longer to gain just enough adjustment to get the belt on.  Has anyone tried this?
