The difference between those 2 transmissions...#5060 has aluminum end plates on the differential...#5071 has steel end plates. Steve is one of those stronger than the other? I'm just wondering if it's fair to assume that the steel is stronger than the aluminum?
stevasaurus 22,866 #27 Posted July 18, 2019 I would say the steel is stronger. I think what was going on was when building the differential, the aluminum end plates were easy to warp or crack. You have to be very careful not to force those when building. The #5060 in my video had an aluminum plate on one side and a steel end plate on the other. I assume the aluminum plate failed and was replaced with the steel one...not the other way around. 2

stevasaurus 22,866 #29 Posted July 18, 2019 Just don't throw out any parts. You can either fix the parts trans or help a member when needed. Many parts are common to other transmissions. Let's see what you find when you open them up. Can you post some pictures??
