Skinny tires for Commando 8

Right now, I have a Commando 8 with a 36" deck. I love how it mows, but I have a slight issue.

 

I'm running 23-10.50×12 Kenda Terra Trac tires on the back, which give it a very cool, mean look. However, they are wider than factory, so the sidewalls of the tires are actually wider than the deck. This causes issues when I try to mow close to something, as the tires will not allow the deck to get up to the edge.

 

If I wanted to run skinnier tires on the front and rear, what would I look for?

 

I'm currently running 23-10.50×12 on the back, and 16-6.50x8 fronts.

 

Obviously I'd need a new set of rims to go with skinnier tires.

6-12's on the rear and 4-8.00's on the front.

I have 23x8.50x12 on my Commando 8 with a 36" deck and the same as yours on the front.  No problem getting close to things. One question,  are your hubs tight to the transmission?

Thanks for the pictures, that's what i was thinking for size / looks. I'll take a measurement of my overall width with the current tires.

 

I do know that the hubs are close to the trans axle extensions.

My next question would be, what is the backset on the rims?

 

With the tires I have on my Commando 23x8.50x12 outside of wheel to outside of wheel measures 32". So the 36" deck sticks out a couple inches on both sides.

Stock wheels off a 71 bronco, which shows the same part number as the stock wheels on my Commando 8.

Nick to may want to go double-check those.

I had the same size tires on my Patriot horse at one point and it was just about 35, 36 inches across the back.

Okay, went and looked at it tonight. It almost looks like the width of the tires is the same as the deck, but the deck for some reason looks kicked to one side. Of course, the side I was looking at whilr mowing was the left side, which almost looks like the tires are in line with the deck.

 

I'll also be loosing an inch or so as the deck shell is slightly wider than the actual width of cut.

Looks about like it should as far as the "set"  of the tires.

You'd gain some by changing to 6-12s for sure.

Can the deck be adjusted side to side?

Deck is a 5-2362, 36" rear discharge, 2-blade gear drive
