bc.gold 3,403 #1 Posted July 13, 2019 (edited) I'm guessing this is from the 1920's. The coils are copper wound and it operates on 110 volts AC voltage, sometimes makes an audible noise when a hacksaw blade is placed above. What is being tested and what condition initiates the hacksaw blade to vibrate causing the noise. mages.org/][/url] Edited July 13, 2019 by bcgold

bc.gold 3,403 #4 Posted July 14, 2019 Just when I thought this was obsolete and belonged in a museum I learn that it can still be used for testing those stater generators used on many of the older tractors.
diesel cowboy 263 #5 Posted July 14, 2019 Yep a Growler. I've got a Snap-On one from probably the 60's I need to get working again so I can rebuild the dozen or so starters, generators and starter/generators I have laying around 8 hours ago, bcgold said: What is being tested and what condition initiates the hacksaw blade to vibrate causing the noise. I'm pretty sure the vibrating blade simulates a shorted winding in the armature
posifour11 723 #6 Posted July 15, 2019 We played with one in AIT, but I didn't get a lot of time with it. (Before the army decided to get rid of it, my first MOS was 63G, fuel and electrical systems repairer.)
