pfrederi 17,739 #4 Posted July 11, 2019 Technology has improved. my father had cataract surgery back in the early 80s. Was in hospital 4 days with his head between sand bags.... Glad you had it easier. 2
953 nut 55,238 #5 Posted July 11, 2019 My brother put off his cataract removal for years, once the first one had been done he realized the sky was blue and grass was green! He couldn't wait to get the second one done. 4
WVHillbilly520H 10,373 #6 Posted July 11, 2019 (edited) Hasn't been as good for my 82yo father, the surgeries went well but he hasn't fully recovered yet, even with the prescribed drops he still gets inflammation in both eyes and has had to have scar tissue removed from the first one done almost 1 1/2 years ago, yes they have came a long ways but still nothing perfect yet...and he has seen the "best" in the area guess my dad is the 1 in a million case. Ed Kennell 38,178 #11 Posted July 12, 2019 On our way to get the patch off and see what we have. I've only been one-eyed for 24 hours, but now I know why those pirates were so mean and nasty. This ain't fun. Thanks for the support. 2 1
19richie66 17,508 #12 Posted July 12, 2019 (edited) With a patch, You can only see one point of view 😁 Edited July 12, 2019 by 19richie66
Ed Kennell 38,178 #13 Posted July 12, 2019 Just 24 hours since the surgery and I can see better than ever....w/o glasses. Yep, the grass s green and the sky is blue. While I was having the bandage removed, Mrs K musta traded in her old dull gray van for a shiny bright tan colored one. I had a little trouble locating her in the parking lot. 2 2 1

Ed Kennell 38,178 #18 Posted July 13, 2019 My new style glasses. I had to pop the lens out as it was blurring the 20/20 vision of my newly repaired super eye. This will make it easy to hang them on a limb while I'm in my tree stand. If the surgery improves the right eye like the left eye did, I will only need a pair of 2X readers from the Dollar Store. I find myself constantly closing each eye and comparing the new eye w/o glasses against the old eye with glasses. The difference is like watching a football game on an old black and white analog TV vs a new digital Hi Def. Thanks again for your support....I am a happy camper. 3 1
wallfish 17,000 #19 Posted July 13, 2019 Judging by that first pic you better hope Mrs K doesn't get her eyes fixed. She might think she's married to Ed Pitt 3

rmaynard 15,461 #21 Posted July 14, 2019 (edited) Bravo on the successful surgery. Had mine done a couple of years ago, but I now need to wear glasses all the time. Corrected vision is better, no cloudiness, and better night vision, but I think the doc used the wrong lens in mine. Instead of only needing readers, I need complete progressives that include distance. However, I would like to point out something that your ophthalmologist probably didn't tell you. My surgeon told me that people with prior cataract (or any other eye surgery) have a 30-50% higher risk of developing retinal tears. On the way home from the big show I suddenly developed a shower of floaters in my left eye. Then I was seeing flashes of light toward the outer edge of my vision field. A visit to the ophthalmologist revealed a tear in my retina. Within 3 hours I was at a retina specialist for surgery. I go back tomorrow for my follow-up. So this is not to scare you, but just to let you know that should you developed the symptoms that I described, don't wait to have it checked. Retinal tears can lead to detached retina Other than that, have a nice day! Edited July 15, 2019 by rmaynard 2 2
BOB ELLISON 2,981 #22 Posted July 14, 2019 I'm supposed to have the same surgery Thursday but I have a sinus infection and may have to put it off until later this year.
Marv 924 #23 Posted July 14, 2019 Had both eyes done in 2007. It has worked well for me. When my doctor told me I wouldn't believe how much difference it would make I did a mental (yeah right). I was wrong! It was surprising. It went well for me and I hope yours does too. Now i am noticing that I am more sensitive to sunlight. That could be from Glaucoma, I don't know. It certainly has been worth it to me. Marv
rmaynard 15,461 #24 Posted July 15, 2019 Don't get me wrong. Cataract removal was a big improvement in my overall vision. However, my experience was not as good as most have described. My warning here is to be aware of things that the doctor does not tell you, and to know of the symptoms of a retinal tear. 3

My surgeon has cautioned my that I should not expect as much improvement when he does the right eye. My right eye has less cataract and more correction, so the surgery will not be as effective as the left eye has been.
