How do you mount your horse?

 The past few days I’ve been getting off and on and off and on my tractors. And the thought has crossed my mind what is the best way to do this. Do I sit down first and swing my leg over the front or do I step on a swing my leg over the seat? There has to be an easier way. Well ?

I find the easiest way is to simply levitate and drop myself onto the seat..

 

The other easiest way is to find a different tractor.. haha. My 1076 with the lack of footplates and a 48" deck on is a real trick to get on.

Yeah my 1067 I have has the same problem with no running boards. I found an eight horse no name that had great running boards on it and added it to it. This has helped tremendously!

Yeah that's why I like the footboards.

Trina doesn't have any problem jumping around on tractors because she's small and in great physical condition.

My physical condition is not terrible but I'm FAR from small.

Generally speaking I grab the steering wheel with two hands and put one foot on the closest side board and swing my leg over the seat.

Careful not to put too much tension on the steering wheel whenever possible. I do check the adjustment on that from time to time to make sure I'm not pulling on it too hard.

That's why my dad (82yo) retired all the gear drive tall center hump tractors for the CC 1720 lawn mower...(top pic during engine swap last month then after mowing my couple acres of "flat" land)...he gets a hold of the lift lever then up on the running board then swings other foot through the dashstand and seat opening before seating himself.

Lets face it we are getting old.  I like to just stay seated once I've gotten on.  It makes things easer.  I find this one is the hardest to get on and off of.  Not sure if it's the old style seat or where it's mounted to the fender pan, the height of the steering wheel. (?)  Mount it like a horse, one foot on the running board and the other one goes over and sit.

Most of my tractors are without full foot boards. Fortunately I was blessed with long legs. I step in front of the left rear tire as close as I can with my left leg & then swing my right leg over the back of the seat. At this point I'm straddling the tractor & just sit down.

I do what @Achto does but I'm not particularly tall.

 

I just sidle on up to the left side, and swing my leg up and over.

All mine are 300- 400 series. Left foot on running board and guide right leg over gear shifts in front of seat. Grab steering wheel with left hand and grab back of seat with right hand, works for me, LOL

I'm what they call vertically challenged, but usually swing my leg up and over the back of the seat. I only have 1 tractor that has running boards.  There are also the times I sit first, mostly when they are parked in the barn, and up against the back wall.

Getting off sometimes can be a challenge!! 

I will swing my leg over the hood and catch my leg on the deck lift ! 

Sometimes that can smart!!

On Frank, the seat dips forward instead of backward upon receiving weight.  A few times at the show, my leg found it’s way between partially under the right front of the seat and above the trans tunnel.  A quick YOUCH! and back to business.  Two or three more in a row, I found that it’s easiest to not rush the mounting of Frank!

I step one foot on the running board and swing the other one kinda across the seat  and one hand on the steering wheel all while trying not to spill my beer.  Getting off the tractor varries

All mine have foot boards after 42 years mount the C-120/180 I don't even think about . Just hop on. Step on the left foot board right leg goes over the high back seat. I can do it from the right side with out thinking about it just as well.

Not as easily as I used to!

Some variation of foot on left foot board and swing my leg between the seat or over the back of the seat while steadying myself with the steering wheel.

 

Sometimes, if I have the trailer on the tractor, I'll mount from the right, feeding my left foot between the steering wheel and seat.  This seems to avoid foot/corner of the trailer collision.

Can't say that I've ever thought much about it.. I definitely had to sit back and try to remind myself of how I usually do it.. I generally just hop on!

 

I think I put my left foot on the left running board, lift my right across the seat, and sit down. To get off I'll swing a leg over the steering wheel on a tractor that doesn't have a manual deck lift.

 All mine have running boards. Left foot on and right 'tween dash and seat. Hand on steering wheel to steady myself. C-125 has a high back seat and there's no way I'd get my right leg over that these days.

280# and a bad knee, first thing I when I get another tractor I plan to use is put a low back seat on it. I grab the steering wheel left leg on running board throw my right leg over the seat, Hi Ho silver and off I go. Now after an hour or two of using it, and a lot of clutching and breaking, depending on which knee is less sore, I swing that leg over that the hood to dismount. A couple of years ago I swung my right leg over the hood to get off and hit the lift handle, my leg got stuck between the hood stand and the lift handle. Between the bad knee and the angle I was at I couldn't lift my leg enough to clear the handle or the hood. So here I seat half way on the tractor on the back side of the shop, middle of the day, nobody around and the wife doesn't get home for 4 more hours. Eventually I was able to get my shoe off and with a little contortion I was able to slide my leg out. Lesson learned always make sure the lift handle is down when dismounting or at least have a few cold ones with you, could be a long day.
