C-160 Vertical Exhaust Stack

Recommended Posts

mattd860

The oem muffler rotted off my 1977 C-160 with the 16hp K341 motor so I'd like to replace it with a vertical muffler. I got the muffler from Tractor Supply but how can get it connected to the motor? Looks like I need a series of 45 degree and 90 degree elbows. Does anyone make something that's easy to bolt on for this type of thing?

All it is is black iron pipe.

Not a bolt on kit so to speak, but very easy to put together.

Not sure on the size but it's probably 1 inch or 1 - 1/4 inch.

Here's a shot of the parts I used as they are all fastened together after I painted them.

And here's a picture of it fabbed on to the tractor before I removed them for paint.

If my memory serves me correctly it was a two inch double male, 45 degree elbow, 4 or 5 inch double male, 90-degree elbow going up ........ and then whatever you need to get into your own muffler.

All of these parts are very readily available at any decent hardware store or big-box store.

The one thing that most of us would recommend is a bracket to hold it in place to keep it from vibrating because the cast iron of the engine can be brittle.

@ebinmaine A “double male”.... is a nipple.  Pipe fittings, we can talk about that.  :ROTF:

@mattd860 how much of the stock exhaust rotted off?  On Frank, I used the first half of a stock C-101 exhaust turned 180 degrees to start the stack.

You are quite welcome but I can't take the credit. I don't remember who gave me the idea but I'm quite sure it was on this site when I was working on either the Patriot horse or the Cinnamon horse.
