I have this old Wheel Horse 856 garden tractor it was my grandfather's. I only use it for garden work like plowing and disking it has an 8 horsepower Kohler engine this morning the spring broke on the left pedal which somehow engage is a break or clutch mechanism can someone help me get a spring.

Welcome to redsquare Jason!

 

I don't have the number of that spring off the top of my head like I do for the later models but somebody will be along shortly to help you out.

 

That is the return spring for the clutch, and brake.

for proper sizing bring the old one with you.

For a quick fix, you could just bend the last remaining coil into a hook.  However, your spring looks pretty crusty, so this quick fix would not be a permeant fix.  Sooner than later you will need a new spring.
