314H ongoing speed issue

Recommended Posts

Good morning everyone! I posted up last year regarding my mid 90s 314H with eaton 1100, it was losing speed while on level ground or hill climbs,  i ended up bringing it to the dealer that sold it originally to my dad over 20 years ago, he was stoked to see it still in use.  Anyways, they tightened the bolt under the seat and lubricated the linkage, but i dont think thats the issue, because now the motion control lever is overly stiff, and i still feel like i dont see a reasonable speed unless my rpms are screaming, which i dont like using full throttle just to cruise back and forth with no extra load.  I only use this tractor for pulling the cart around, plowing snow, and if i can ever figure out why my snow thrower attachment keeps tossing drive chains, I'll use that too.  That being said, i have searched forever now regarding modifying anything to get a couple more mph out of it, but cant find my exact application.  My driveway is way too long, and the yard is way too wide, making a couple more mph valuable to me in order to cruise from one side to the other without killing my entire day.  Haha.  Can anyone confirm, is it a simple smaller pully? Does that concept not work on a hydro trans? Will it overheat or damage anything?  I'm not talking ludicrous speeds here, just another 2 or 3mph to help move it along on long hauls across the yard back and forth.  Thanks for any insight!!   Extra light duty pic from a proud owner! Haha

If you look at the transmission pulley on the Eaton 1100 you will notice that it is bell shaped,to clear the input bearing support. If you want to switch to a smaller pulley to increase speed the belt won't line up.The only practical way to speed it up would be to increase the size of the engine pulley.I can't speak to the effect on oil temps or longevity but I doubt you could an extra 2 to 3 mph out of it unless the engine pulley was really big in diameter.

If you had an 8speed you could get it to go much faster by swapping pullies. It would be very easy to do as all the pullies are a standard design unlike the hydro pulley.Since the 8speed has a low range increasing road speed won't overly effect the usefullness as a tractor.
