Pullstart 62,783 #27 Posted June 29, 2019 Now that it’s near 70 in the house again instead of 85 and humid, I can work a bit on the new water heater plumbing. I still have the old one hooked up and heating by the wood boiler and I’ll rough in as much as possible with the potable and boiler systems before killing water pressure. The side arm heat exchangers are in progress right now. I had to mix bushings (bottom) and bell reducers (top) on the exchanger because the supply house only had so much of each.... just enough to piece my job together! The 1-1/2” copper tube will slide over the 3/4” tube. I had to drill the fittings out on the lathe to get the small tube to slide through instead of hit the stops. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Pullstart 62,783 #34 Posted June 29, 2019 Rainwater filled our sump pump crock faster than the pump could operate, then once it failed the battery backup didn’t last long enough for us to notice.... because of some silly tractor show. A Fella at my Site few hundret kilometers far has every Year to fight on Spring with highly raised Groundwater, that flooded his Basement. To fight against we are taking about and i give him the Advice, to combine 2 Drainpumps. After a bit Brainstorming we develop follow System. Main pump and Backup pump both are the same size and Brand and together oversized. We Use 2 separate Swimmerswitches and few Relay to solve that. If the Mainpower is available, the Main sump pump is running if first Swimmer is Activated. That was the Basic System mostly anybody has. Than we remove the Sump diggin a bit deeper and enhance the whole Sump on double the Size to implement the Double Swimmersystem. If Mainpower Fails and the Groundwater raises, the second Swimmerswitch will be activated. With that then a dedicated Generator with Autostart capability will be fired up, if Mainpower is Back or if Fuel is empty the Generator stops after 30 min.(dellayrelais) To provide longterm Power we equipped this Powersystem with an External Fueltank. The Tankcapacity i calculated to run on 4Day‘s continouse use. (Fueltankcapacity can be adapted as needed) if the Powersystem now runs, one Relais switch away from Mainpower, to protect the Generator and two Relais Will be activated. This both Relays triggers both (Main and Backuppump) by the first Swimmer to keep the Basment Clear. If now Water raises while Generator runs, allway‘s both Pumps drains the Sump. I know, this sounds a bit complicated, but since we established this System no more rain or Groundwater floodes his Basement. Even if Mainpower was available, but Groundwater raises faster than one pump can drain, the second swimmer will be triggered, the Generator fires up and both Pumps do the Job. Latest if the Second Swimmer is Activated the Generator Starts and he wastes few Liters of Fuel. But the combination of those 2 Pumps has even more capacity to keep the Basement clear, even if the Citywater line breaks. The only Action he must Service, was to start each 1/4 year the Generator for delay by a Button to test it. I wish I had picked up a few more unions and made room for a couple shut off valves but I’ll cross that bridge if I ever need to change something. I used to train plumbers on commercial water heater repair. One group from FL one time told me they had two full work vans on a job site and one broke down.
