rustyedge1 170 #1 Posted June 27, 2019 Finish mowing the other day, pulled in the garage went to shut down and shifter lever came out in my hand. The collar went in the transmission. Really want to keep using this machine, has a twin 18hp Kohler replacement engine with 400 hrs or so. I know I got to get the collar out but haven't had any luck yet. At least the transmission is in natural. I really don't want to have to tear it down. Any ideas ?? 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

953 nut 55,776 #3 Posted June 27, 2019 The collar is large enough that it probably wouldn't get snagged in any of the gears, but you know how Murphy's Law can make the improbable a reality in a heartbeat. JAinVA 4,621 #4 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) If the collar is in the transaxle, I doubt you can get it out with out splitting the case.Stevasaurus has posted videos on U-tube covering the process.I hate to say this but if you run the tractor without getting the collar out you will be most likely be splitting the case but to replace internal parts damaged by the collar. Did it snap, or is it missing from the shifter? pullstart I've got the screw, it must have backed out and caused the problem. Was laying on case just at the hole it's supposed to go into. Same thing just happened on my 310-8 ...although my shifter collar didnt drop Thank Lord. Guess ill have to get the welder out too. rustyedge1 170 #18 Posted July 10, 2019 Talked to my friend today and he agrees on the welding, just not sure on how everything lines up and where. Also the roll pin looks pretty rough. Believe replacing it would be a positive. Dose the dog screw tighten down against the roll pin ? As it is now this screw doesn't tighten down on the roll pin or even close. WHX?? 49,163 #23 Posted September 19, 2019 Yes put a roll pin back in for positioning then weld it. Of the dozens I've had out I don't think I've ever had one that wasn't welded. Just a hole for the dog point. Make sure the shifter boot is in good shape. Now might be a good time to change fluids too.
