As stated a couple days ago, on the way home we lost a mess of supplies off the back of the RV.  Before leaving the fair grounds, I received word that our basement was flooded.  Yesterday among arriving home, we hauled stuff out of the basement, filled our garage and yard with perished items, buried Norman trying to unload and got the water mostly out of the basement.  We are still vacuuming puddles and squeegeeing towards the drain.  Ends up our main sump pump died and the redundant battery back up only will pump so long before dying.  Our insurance does not cover this type of accident, we’ll need a new furnace, water heater, our dry goods food supply and paper items were all lost, along with many family heirlooms, photos, etc.  They say that “things” can be replaced, but not all “things” come from the store shelf.  It stings a bit, knowing that the crock in the basement has been a concern of mine since moving here, my insurance agent retired and now we find out the policy she set up for us is not too helpful.  

 

We we were able to pull Norman from the yard, it’s still pouring and there is plenty of hauling to be done.

Trina and I experienced a major oil spill this past February so I know to a huge extent what you are going through.

While it's a huge bummer, insurance seems to have way to many outs when it comes to water damage.

    It sounds like you have a mess on your hands.The things can be replaced song, does not include stuff you have that are reminders of your past or family.I hope that you can get over this setback.You strike me as a young man who isn't afraid of work.Keep us up to date on your progress.Luck,JAinVA.  Our hearts goes out to you and your family!  Maybe someone on here can set up something so people can donate to ease the pain..  However the family  heirlooms can’t be replaced and that is so very sad.  😢.  Hang on to the memories!!!  Just grab your family in a big huge and rejoice in knowing there still with you to make more memories, and treasures!!!!

@Jennifer your thoughts alone are enough to be thankful for, our big losses are things that are not used on a daily basis.  Other than the water heater and furnace, but those can be handled.

So, nearing one year later.  I went downstairs to look for a sewing kit... found water in the basement again.  This time, a failed condensate pump from the A/C running this week.  Not nearly as bad as 16+” in the place, but stuff got wet.  The only true loss? “LIFE” the board game.  Coincidence?  Who knows...  for now until I can get another pump, I ran a line direct to the sump pump crock across the floor.  LIFE will go on!

Oh, not good news,

Do you don’t have a drain pump for the whole Basement as Safety backup solution?

a Waterpipe can break, without a drainsump you will flooding your Basement.

 

An 1“ or 1,5“ drainpump in a sump about 1 or 1,5 meter deep and half or even one squaremeter fitted with a Swimmer can keep your basement as Dry as possible. surely not for 100%, but it can help to reduce such mess of a flooded Basement.

 

Additional Attached with an loud Alarm buzzer that you can hear outside , you will be prewarned if sump level is too high above the drain swimmerline or Pump is clogged.

 

Ok, if the Pump fails, that is a dang situation especially if you‘re not at home,

but as long you are in listening Area you will hear the Alarm.

So you can maybe react before a huge damage was happen in future.

Stefan, we have a drain pump, water from around the house is tiled to that basin then pumped away.  Apparently the floor will hold an inch or better before it spills into that... thanks to the concrete for settling I guess

Oh, is it possible to rework that with few added Drainlines, that it runs easier into that basin without a block?
