kto434 108 #1 Posted June 23, 2019 Newbie question: I have a 1968 Charger with a Sundstrand hydrostatic transmission. The tranny is smooth and quiet—no apparent problems. However, I noticed the cast iron gets hot to the touch after about an hour’s mowing use. Is that typical or may I have a problem? Thanks!
lynnmor 7,354 #2 Posted June 23, 2019 They get rather warm. Be sure that the cooling fins and the fan are clean. Run the engine full throttle when mowing.
pfrederi 17,879 #3 Posted June 23, 2019 Sundstrand hydros will run 180 when working hard...That is hot to the touch. Like lynnmore said keep here clean and run her at full throttle I blow mine off with compressed air if they are on mowing duty.
kto434 108 #4 Posted June 23, 2019 OK, thanks—got it. I do keep the cooling fins and really the whole tractor very clean and used my leaf blower after each use to blow off debris/dust. I will keep doing that too. Thanks again and take care!
