Suburban 550 28 #1 Posted January 29, 2008 Saturday morning I took some pictures of my Suburban restoration project over to my local wheel horse dealer to show him how it was coming along. As the pictures were scattered all over his counter in walked a customer who happened to take a look at the pictures and said he had one just like it over at his farm. Well, my first question was did he want to sell it. He did and told me if I wanted to see it I could follow him over to the farm. When we got there he opened the shed and there sat a tractor that said Wheel Horse Six Speed on the hood. I was a little disappointed it wasn't an old round nose and after looking at the plate I discovered it was a model T-1067. It had a Kohler K241S motor, 42 inch side discharge mower deck, rear tires were dry rotted but still held air, steering shaft has alot of play and rear hitch was missing. To make a long story short I offered him $50.00 which he accepted, took it home put a battery in it and it fired right over. It sat for about a year because it was replaced by a Exmark Zero turning radius mower. Engine sounds really good no knocks or smoke.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #2 Posted January 29, 2008 Good story. That old saying about "being in the right place at the right time" really applies here. Good find. Sometimes you just get lucky. :D
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #3 Posted January 29, 2008 GREAT FIND! The 1067 is one of the first of three models to have the "new for 1967" dual range Uni-Drive transaxle! (867, 1067, & 1267) They were actually the "feature tractors" at the 2007 WHCC show - celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 6 ("8") speed. Here a picture of one from the WHCC show: Shame I can't remember if this was a 10 or a 12 though.
combatmp29r 27 #4 Posted January 29, 2008 Thats great. Excellent find. I'm glad it went to some one who will find some use for it and not a scrap yard.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,259 #5 Posted January 29, 2008 Terry, not to get this one off-track, but if that's a 1067 we could use it in the gallery. I love stories like this. Had this not happened, this tractor would have sat forever until it gets tossed out into the fields. Great find!
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #6 Posted January 29, 2008 It is definitely ONE of the two Karl.... and since the 1067/1267 look identical on the outside, maybe we could use it as both? What do you suggest?
