Mower Deck 0548SC01 1987/88

I need a parts list or diagram with part number listed for a wheel horse 48" side discharge mower commercial  model. The v groove idler ( the one that is bolted on with bolt through the center) Every parts list/diagram that I have found online shows the 36", the 42" and "some " of the 48" bed but NOT the one diagram that I need that shows the 3 pulleys! The V grove pulley gave up the ghost yesterday after 31 years of working hard, the center of the pulley is in pieces.

The ID number on my manual is 0548SC01     80110

                                                  Made in USA  8217

Thank you in advance guys,

Dick

Your deck is a 1988 model determined by the Julian build date 8217.

Many parts lists are shared with similar models but the online versions do not tell us what deck uses what. Only an original parts list would be clear and we do not have one for this model.

We know your spindle belt is 1594 and a set of blades is 106637 from the charts.

Look at this parts list.

Item #1 is the spindle belt but look down the list to near the bottom for more item #1's. There are 2 more item #1's.

The 2'nd item #1 is followed by items 2, 4, 5, 6, 29, 30, 33 and 38. Item #1 is the 1594 spindle belt and  #30 is the 3-blade set 106637 for the 48" deck so this group of parts are specific to the 48" deck.

Click on the fuzzy picture below where you can download this parts list.

The only V-groove idler is the one at the front of the tractor beside the flat idler that redirects the belt around the front axle. That assembly is the same for all sizes of decks using 3 blades for this size of tractor.

Hi Garry, I see you ran into the same problem that I did, no definitive photo/parts list for the 48" bed. In looking at the 42" three blade bed, the part that is bad on my 48" bed is part number 6719, line item (4), fixed V idler pulley. The problem that I have is, will this same pulley for the 42" bed work on the 48" bed ?? I am going to measure the pulley to see if there are any listed pulleys that will match mine close enough to work. Do you have any other suggestions ?

Thank you Garry,

Dick

First item #4 - 42" deck

Flat idler pulley - 3.750" OD - 3-3/4" - WH 6719, 112425, 519567 replaced by 92-7101 (Napa 7-05207 with flanges, Stens 280-099 Std Flat OD 3.250", Stens 280-578 replaced by 280-114 HD Flat OD 3.250")

Second item #4 - 48" deck

Flat idler pulley - 4.500" OD - 6769, 106144 and 112895 replaced by WH 93-1622 (Stens 280-123 Std, Napa 7-05211 with flanges, Stens 280-495 HD)

I made these pulley lists up from info that was available. With the flat idlers there is often no way to determine if the OD is of the flat part of the pulley or the OD of the flanges above the flat.

What makes you call this a V-idler?

Hi Garry, I called the shop where I bought my WH back in 1988, he said he had one pulley in stock, I picked it up this afternoon, the part number was 92-7101. When I got home, I noticed that the pulley was smaller in diameter. It measured 3 3/4" outside rim lip to rim lip. It other wise mounted OK with the bolt. My concern is, the old pulley ( yes it is a flat not V pulley Garry, my error, sorry )  measured rim to rim 4 1/4" inches in diameter. If I use the new pulley with a smaller diameter, the only difference I see is that the belt will have slightly more length slack.  Might this slack be taken up by the spring extension that mounts on the idler bar?

I don't know.

There is a difference of 1-37/64" in the circumference of the two pulleys so the belt around 1/2 of the pulley will leave a good 3/4" of extra belt.

Make sure the belt will clear the spindle pulley if you use the smaller idler. To maintain the optimum blade tip speed pulley diameters are changed to meet that goal. The 48" must turn slower than the 42" blades so the 48" spindle pulleys are bigger.

The spring tension, part number 100071 is missing on my bed, I don't know if that caused the pulley to disintegrate, or, if the pulley disintegrated first and that caused the spring to fall off lost in my field somewhere. In any case, I now need to buy a new spring as well. I think I will order the larger pulley diameter that you mentioned above for use on the 48" mower, just in case the new one I bought gives me trouble. I will match the new pulley to the OD as close as I can, it "should" be close enough to work fine.
