Al..Ostaff 1 #1 Posted June 20, 2019 Hello ime new to this wheel.horse addiction. I have a chance to buy one of 2 dif wheel horses. 1st is a c 160 8 speed or a d 180 bolth run bolth have snow removal attachments. I want to paint clean an work it mowing rototillering mainly . Witch one would be a better choice the d 180 don't have the PTO rear drive or 3 point hitch .
RandyLittrell 3,894 #2 Posted June 20, 2019 I would probably chose the C-160 myself. I like the looks better and more parts available. Randy 2 1
ebinmaine 70,668 #3 Posted June 20, 2019 to Beautiful area down there in Western Massachusetts. I'd vote for the C160 as well. Parts availability is better and they're easier to repair and maintain. I may be a bit partial... Cinnamon Horse is a C-160. 3
JAinVA 4,629 #4 Posted June 20, 2019 I vote for the c160 for the above reasons as well.Rugged and simple. 1 1

Al..Ostaff 1 #6 Posted June 20, 2019 Thanks for all the replys . It def helps . I mean ime a typical guy so I always lean tords the bigger engine an PTO availability an more power . But thats y I asked. I've made alot of bad choices in the past 6 , 7 years so now before I get involved or invested I like to ask peaple who forgot morevthen ile ever know or learn . So I def appreciate. The solid advice . With the c 160 witch is 500 ime able to get a c 125 for 2 3 hundred . The thing with that one is he removed the drive to put into another mower . 1 hour ago, Al..Ostaff said: Hello ime new to this wheel.horse addiction. ebinmaine 70,668 #8 Posted June 20, 2019 If you can get a C-160 that runs and mows for $500... Go grab it. We'll all help you go through it and change the needed parts and fluids. And find a station that sells non ethanol gas too. The tractor and you will be happier in the long and short run. Any pics available? All us 5 year olds love pics. 3
pacer 3,175 #9 Posted June 20, 2019 I have have/had 5 of the D series and still owning 2 of them and dearly love them ---- but, for a new to this series owner, and having the choice of these 2, then go for the C160. Its right up there in the top tier of all the horses with an excellent engine and good features, and as mentioned parts and maintenance are better than the D's. 1
Herder 2,354 #10 Posted June 20, 2019 My first WH was a C160 that I purchased some 15 years ago and I still have and use it today. The 16hp Kohler is a great engine and back that up with an 8 speed your unstoppable. The C series has many usable & interchange attachments. I love mine, just be careful they multiply. 1
Razorback 1,069 #11 Posted June 20, 2019 I have had my C160 since last Fall and I really like it! Outside of that, I would think that the availability of parts is an advantage. Maybe in the future you can keep your eyes open for a D series that has a PTO and 3-point. 2
chip61 664 #12 Posted June 20, 2019 I agree with everyone else-C160 all the way. Plenty of parts available, and very simple to operate and work on. More comfortable than my 416H. I wouldn't mind having a D series, but for parts availability and ease of operation you can't beat the C series. 1
midpack 970 #13 Posted June 20, 2019 Blandford? you mean there's a C-160 for sale around here that I didn't know about?!?!?! I must be slipping... I have 2 (or 3) of the C machines and a 417. so many of the parts from C, 300, 400, and even some B machines are interchangeable. if it's a first Wheel Horse i vote for the C-160 1
pfrederi 18,322 #14 Posted June 20, 2019 C160 if you want to rototill. D tillers are much rarer and you will have to come up with a rear PTO and 3 pt $$$ 2
Firebug 267 #15 Posted June 21, 2019 I have both a c-160 and a d-200. I haven’t had the chance to use the 160 yet as it’s still in the “repair” stage. But I do use my D for everything, tilling, show removal, grass cutting with the 3 point mower. Having that experience I would steer you towards the 160. The 200 is a big tough as nails machine but can also be a bit finicky. Keeping the hydraulics adjusted, the mechanism is a beyond me for adjustment or repair. The implements don’t come up for sale terribly often but when they do they usually go for a premium. My tiller alone was $500, the snow plow is different than the others so I don’t think any other plow will work. The c series seems just as tough, Michael easier to work on and it seems the implements are readily available. I may be wrong, maybe someone else knows better but it seems that a lot of the parts are interchangeable with the 30 and 400 series (given they do have different motors) 2
bo dawg 516 #16 Posted June 23, 2019 C-160 is the cheaper way to go. But I have owned 1 D and enjoyed it. I sold it recently and miss it a lot.
Rfp55 33 #17 Posted June 23, 2019 C160 can be lot easier to live with and keep operating simply. Attachments more available I think. But get both and decide later?. Every D160, 180 or Automatic 18 I have encountered for sale for the past few years has be seriously used, neglected/abused.
