Reo-Matic 4

Recommended Posts

Came across what looks to be a Reo-Matic 4 on Facebook marketplace. Has the hoop-style steering wheel.

Has no info regarding if it will run or function, but the pics make it looks like its in fantastic shape for it's age (assuming it's all original).

Are these desirable? Or even worth looking into? I think it's a very cool little machine personally.

Anybody else have one of these little rear-engine Reo-Matic riders?

EDIT: Claims it's in all original condition minus the carb (replaced it 2 years ago), and said it ran when he replaced it. However, it's been sitting for the past 2 years, so who knows whats going on with it now.

REO-Matic, as in the bathtub on wheels? I had one. Actually I have a few REO machines. Very unique designs on all of them. A SnoCaster, Royale reel mower, and a Holiday 18 walk behind mower. WH adapted a lot to their own lineup.
They don't seem to be worth too much even in good shape. At least here in Maine. My 'tub' wasn't mint, but a nice survivor, it spent nearly a year on CL before finally selling for 100.00, as a running mowing unit.
Of course, just getting one up and running seems to cost more then the rig is worth.. but if you like them, you'll likely have one of the only ones around, and they are a ball to operate. Our hilly yard just made it unfeasible to own.

Yes, a bathtub on wheels.

The guy is asking $200 and is an hour and a half away.

Pictures from the ad. I think it's very unique and cool, but time and space are limited right now. I hardly ever see them come up for sale.

I have no problem driving out to get it, but i'd have to figure out what to do with it when I got home lol

I just looked it up on Tractor Data dot com. Says it's a 32" deck, and only weights 250 lbs. Overall dimensions are 53" long, 34" wide, and 30" tall. I may be able to fit that in the back of my SUV with the seats folded down.

@c-series don

These tiller handled units seem to be pretty rare...

C-series Don owns the only other one I've even seen here on RedSquare.

Here’s mine one of the only ones that I know of. I believe they are super rare. Mine was N.O.S. When I bought it about 15 years ago from a dealer. Thanks Craig for letting me know about this.

Very cool family you got there. That REO Matic looks tiny compared to some of the others lol.
