The Tuul Crib 7,338 #1 Posted June 16, 2019 I’m looking at some engine oil’s online as well as local. I do know that 30 weight is what I will be using. There are some of you that use shell Rotella in their engines. All of 30 weight shell Rotella that I see says diesel engines. Does this matter?
953 nut 57,932 #2 Posted June 16, 2019 That is what I use. Tractor Supply seems to have the best price.

pfrederi 18,334 #4 Posted June 16, 2019 (edited) Diesels can have ZDDP (or what ever it is) Rotella is all I use in my hard workers Edited June 16, 2019 by pfrederi
pfrederi 18,334 #5 Posted June 16, 2019 Lots of old gas farm tractor owners use it also. ZDDP is good for flat tappets. 1

lynnmor 7,566 #7 Posted June 16, 2019 I bought a new zero turn with a Kohler engine. I looked at the Kohler oil and saw that it didn't have the dreaded SN designation, so I bought a case. SN is the oil to keep the government happy because it is low in ZDDP which supposedly is harmful to catalytic converters.
The Tuul Crib 7,338 #8 Posted June 16, 2019 Ill bet the government people dont own a wheelhorse! They own ... well ... junk?
ZXT 2,401 #9 Posted June 17, 2019 It is perfectly OK to run diesel oil in gas engines, especially older ones. There are no downsides that I know of. As was said, ZDDP is great for the cam and lifters and most brands of diesel oil still contain a fair amount.

The large lettering on the bottle will say diesel but read the fine print. It will have the diesel classification listed as CC, CD or CE something like that. The C is for compression = diesel If it also has SF, SG or SH it is the gasoline engine spec. The S is for spark = gas engine and you are good to go.
