muz123 1,192 #1 Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) Picked up an old 312-8 that probably has been outside for 5 years. Almost ready to use. One of the last things is the brake pedal doesn't return to the normal position after use. Believe it's just the one spring on the lever but also greased the brake pedal. So ordered a new spring but Iit doesn't appear that bad. Is there anything I'm missing? Thanks, Dave Edited June 15, 2019 by muz123
81blackhood 168 #2 Posted June 15, 2019 Could it be that the brake pedal has rust on the shaft and the spring can’t can’t over come the friction. I would spray lube or remove it and clean the shaft up
Lee1977 6,808 #3 Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) The brake crosses over on another shaft it's bolted in from the left side with a tab. You may have to remove it there are two bushing in the tube that crosses over. Could be rust in there. Edited June 15, 2019 by Lee1977
muz123 1,192 #4 Posted June 15, 2019 That could be it. After I greased it and it sat in the sun, it appears to be looser but we'll see if it is loose enough! I am reluctant to pull that whole shaft apart!
The Tuul Crib 7,337 #5 Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) Here’s something that I have done that may not be your problem but does add a couple more grease fittings to the list. On the brake pedal and the clutch pedal there is a small hole. I drilled it out and tapped it and added a grease fitting really easy to do. muz123 1,192 #6 Posted June 16, 2019 Is that in addition to the grease plug that is already there on the other side otowards the pedal?
