Recommended Posts

@pullstart I found Fanks other eye cleaning up an old fallen down shed at the inlaws farm yesterday!

Also found these old motor parts?

Can you identify any of them?

Especially interested if anyone can identify what this Tecumseh starter fits.  Although it looks rough, the rope actually pulls, returns and the dogs work.

OK here's some real Whatizits.

I picked up this tub at Estate Sale last November Garage sale. The guy had a small equipment repair/junk shop. I wanted the set of number and letter stamps in it.

But what are these WHATIZITS?

There a almost afull set of them from 2-1/2 inches to 1/2"  The other side has a tool manufacture name on it I can't show you yet.

As you can see in the below picture the outer edges are machines to a radius.

The top and bottom ends lave lathe center points?

This is another strange whatizits item in the tub?

They look like lead weight molds? Bare they all the same size and number, or do they differ some?

@formariz I think you may be in the ball park.  Are they molds are possible made to check molds? Remember they have precision machined round edges

@pullstart from 2-1/2" down to 1" they are in 1/8" sizes. from 1" to 1/2" they are in 1/16" increments.

@Ed Kennell Maybe these look familiar to you?

Those people manufactured precision machines and machine tools. They may be the molds for some precision sort of "ingot" like product since they are graduated like that. As for the center points at the ends, I have seen similar stuff in a foundry. Crucible was held by ends with a pin in a device. One end of device ( at the square end with the two protrusions) would retract and crucible was turned to release "ingot".

On the other hand if you check their actual width and compare it to the size stated and that matches, they may be some sort of Gage to check other parts.

The other strange tool is a masonry tool called a corner block.

My guess would be some kind of guage set. I spot the name Brown & Sharpe on there at the top. Mayve used in conjunction with a gauge block set to set snap gauges or for some kind of inspection

Look like posable spacers, for something that varies, like pickets for railing maybe.  They are brown and sharpe.

That’s the first time I’ve been accused of THAT!

I need to call my mom, she’ll be so proud, especially since I have it in writing

Im going to have to defer to @formariz, seems he has that one wrapped up. I wouldn’t have known where to start lol

* Taking Cas’ thoughts on ingots, if the measurements and the numbering doesn't match up, could be that the numbers are weights in ounces 🤷🏻‍♂️

@oliver2-44OK, I am pretty certain that they are Machinist Lathe Tool Mill Gauge Blocks . They are too shallow to be any type of crucible. The slight curved outer edges seem to have come from being turned in a lathe to a precise dimension, hence the center points. Also the fact that they are handled and have a hole on handle for hanging leads to that assumption. I see also I think in the box a lathe cutter.Perhaps @buckrancher can help us finalize it.

@formariz I did a google search for "Machinist Lathe Tool Mill Gauge Blocks" and found some identical ones selling on ebay with that name.

I saw those but he is also not sure since he puts a question mark at the end of description. Based on what those people manufactured I belie that it is what they are. However unless we find their description on some type of catalogue or the like, I would think hat someone like @buckrancher could enlighten us as to exactly what they are.
