Hello  and good day;

I was wondering what some of you do when using the tiller on 312-8 , I have a hard time steering it when till is in ground. I do have extra mower front belt mount bracket is it possiable to modify ?

That is a loaded question as we don't know your fabrication skills.A front mount for weights can be made using the belt mount but if you go for that then you will probably better off starting from scratch for a weight mount.

You could also have your front tires filled with fluid for ballast. I don't recommend the commonly used calcium chloride for fluid because it will eat your rims if the inner tube leaks. I recommend Rim Saver/ beet juice or wind shield washer fluid.

I used some steel plates mounted to a removable bracket on the front. Could even use old barbell weights. 50 pounds is nice. This is a 312-8 and that is my neighbor running the tiller.

Was at a house construction site recently and there were five of these concrete steel column sections.  They are the left over pieces that are cut from the columns that are in the basement supporting the carrying beams.  Site boss said they were being thrown out and I could have them.  Four are now mounted to the front of my 312-8.  Each weighs approximately 15 pounds adding 60 pounds, plus or minus.

I took an old style mower deck tensioner and cut the pullies off, and hung a couple of formerly green 41 lbs weighs from it. I usually also have wheel weights all-around, (50s on rear wheels and 25s on fronts)  I just didn't have them on in this picture from a few years ago. Amazing the difference having 80 lbs hanging 12" in front of the tractor.

I know it’s not a 312 but I have the same problem on my D200. I put on slightly oversized Ag tires up front and have 3 gallons of washer fluid in each which added approximately 45 pounds. It’s better but still not great. Thought about putting my dozer blade on since I leave the mount on all the time but still haven’t tried it.
