Skipper 1,788 #1 Posted June 12, 2019 So this may be a stupid question, but with all the pullers being made, I find it odd that I almost never see one for sale. Is there a "puller forum/marketplace" where this all goes down? or how does it work? I have a friend that is looking for one, so any hints are appreciated
ebinmaine 67,422 #2 Posted June 12, 2019 Here in Maine they pop up on Craigslist every once in awhile but they're usually in pretty rough shape. I don't do any tractor pulling of any size myself but I do know that each class and a lot of different clubs have their own set of rules. If I was personally looking for a pulling specific tractor I think I would go to some of the pulling events and speak to the people that are in charge of them. Get a rule sheet. Figure out what you need to be competitive. you may very well find that someone there has one for sale because they are changing classes or tractors. You may also find that they may build you one or sell you the parts on the cheap for you to do it yourself.
JAinVA 4,619 #3 Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) If you are looking for a puller to remove drive hubs, I doubt you will find anything usable for sale used. You will probably have to make one up on your own.Do a search for hub puller here and you will have an array of types to build. They can be basic or complex depending on the builder.I use a porta power 20 ton ram to do my hubs. You can see my version by searching this site using the suggested search title. JAinVA 4,619 #5 Posted June 13, 2019 If you are talking about puller tractors you need to access the folks in your part of the world involved in that activity. The Wheel Horse has a world wide following but pulling competitively is locally ruled.

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #8 Posted June 13, 2019 Here is a 312-8 I set up a few years ago and passed it along to my buddy for his kids to pull. The 312 with 8 speed is a good machine to pull with.

JCM 9,130 #11 Posted June 13, 2019 Should I wait for the 2nd annual Meet & Greet in Maine before we get into adding a pulling event, and if I did what would you guy's need for area, equipment etc ?

You need flat and level area with no rocks. Grass is good. You also need some sort of stone boat with at least 1000 lbs of weight. I had a fun pull at my meet and greet the last two years and started by using a tailgate slightly bent up on both ends. 2

Pullstart 62,834 #17 Posted June 13, 2019 There’s one all painted up black or dark in the local CL here. I thought about offering him a ride for his tractor to the show if he sold it out there!
TonyToro 1,049 #18 Posted August 3, 2019 If you haven’t found a classified section for pullers yet, go on Facebook look for garden tractor pulling classifieds. There are a few groups on there. Most stuff is mid west. You can also just search craigslist.

wallfish 16,994 #22 Posted August 4, 2019 2 hours ago, TonyToro said: Is that front axle stock or from another model tractor? It's not a 953 front axle and believe Charlie the builder made it. How about using a Suburban front axle and use small Lawn Ranger front wheels? "Off the shelf stuff" but you will need to shim around the axle pin holding the axle to the frame so it fits tight. I'm not a puller so not sure exactly what you're wanting but those components will drop the front. From an Old ad on here.
