CBR -327 Drive Belt ???

Recommended Posts

Lane Ranger

I  worked on the 701 Wheel Horse mower clutch today and placed a 38 x 1/2 inch belt on the engine drive pulley to run the CBR- 327  Front Sickle Bar Mower I am bringing to the Big Show in Gettysburg, PA  next week and the Garden Tractor Daze Show in Portage, Wisconsin in July.

I had sickle bar in another place today and did not get to confirm the belt size needed to drive this rare front sickle bar mower.    However, I placed a 38 x 1/2 belt used on the RJ front cutter bar.   The 38 however may be too big as the 701 used a smaller pulley than the RJ version.

Any Red Square member who has one of these CBR-327 front cutter bars or knows from seeing one what size drive belt needs to be on here , please let me know.   When I get the bar on my 701 I will have a better idea for sure -just wanted to shake the trees and see what folks may know about this.

I beleive the drive pulley on the CBR-327 is a 4 inch pulley.

:greetings-clappingyellow:I'll have one there too Lane but on a Suburban so I don't know the belt size. Maybe get a few sizes and see what fits best?

the Big Job needing completed today on the  CBR-327  Front Sickle Bar Mower -getting the two shoulder bolts removed from the back of the frame for installing on the 701!

The rear shoulder bolts were rusted into the cutter bar frame from sitting in Florida weather inside for thirty years!   Had to be heated up to get them out!

Now I can put this on the tractor and see if I have the correct sized belt to run it!

Working on belt size thsi am!  Got the tractor out and put the CBR-327 Sickle Bar Mower on it!

Now looking to get correct belt size.

Going to have to go through a process of elimination.    Smaller than 59  and bigger than 38  by 1/2!

Looks to be in 46  to 50  size range!

You have to put nuts on shoulder bolts behind the transmission bolts for clearance then tighten the shoulder bolts!    Tight spacing!

Lift rod  fit perfectly on rockshaft!

Now off to find a belt that will work !

Use a piece of rope to get you in the ballpark. then get a couple both sides of what the rope measures. Can always take the wrong ones back.

May not have my cutter bar operating at show!  Going to have to devise a jackshaft operating system running trough attachamatic under the motor!

Show will I’ll bring out some ideas from my fellow Wheel Horse nuts!

Very cool attachment.

Out of curiosity, with the way it mounts, would it also fit on any of the short-frame, square hood tractors? Or is there something specific about the 701 that makes it only fit that tractor?

I think it  would fit on all the pre-1965 round hoods  71_Bronco!

I had an ah ha moment this am on Fathers Day and realized the tension spring in the CBR -327 chain Drive Front Cutter Bar was on incorrectly!  The prong was holding the drive pulley on the cutter bar back and when reversed it holds the pulley forward just under the motor!

Thus us finding a belt to fit and operate is much easier!

So the cutter bar with chain chain drive made for the 701 will be at the Big Show running the weekend!

Garry:  I used a 35 belt to drive but I think a 37  would be better.   My 701 mower deck clutch clutch is not very tight on this tractor.
