Harvey 0 #1 Posted June 7, 2019 I have a 1989 520h 20 hp onan not charging. Getting 13 volts a.c. from stator is that enough? 0 on 12 volt out put should I Chang regulator see what happens?
WHX?? 49,281 #2 Posted June 7, 2019 (edited) Harvey. No that is not enough AC as measured on the two outside terminals. With the engine running 3600 RPM you shoul see 20-40 VAC. I would first change out the reg. just I know they do go bad, it's easy and cheap. Required reading here from the service manual. Harvey 0 #4 Posted June 7, 2019 But even at 13 volts out of stator should I get something out of regulator

Harvey 0 #6 Posted June 7, 2019 Yes 13 volts AC out of stator
WHX?? 49,281 #7 Posted June 7, 2019 (edited) No you would not, it is insufficient power to turn on the regulator. If the battery is not up to snuff it will not have enough voltage to turn on the regulator either. Edited June 7, 2019 by WHX24
