Big guy lil tractor 22 #1 Posted May 31, 2019 My 867 has started grinding when I put it in reverse. After it gets in gear it runs reverse just fine, getting there is the issue. Forward gears seem fine all the time. Do in need to tear it apart or maybe just an adjustment ? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rmaynard 15,609 #2 Posted May 31, 2019 If it is grinding, that means that the input shaft is still turning. When the clutch is depressed, the guides on the belt cover should assist the drive belt to move away from the drive pulley on the engine. That allows the belt to stop. When the belt stops, the input shaft stops. When all internal components stop, there will be no grinding. 953 nut 55,799 #5 Posted May 31, 2019 It could be the "Dogpoint screw" that holds your shift lever in place is in need of some fine tuning. If the lever is a little sloppy it may not be moving the shift fork far enough to fully align the gears. Just flip the rear fender back and pull the shift lever boot up to get at the dogpoint. It has a lock nut that takes a 7/16" wrench and an allen wrench (can't remember the size). Shift lever should be snug but not hard to move. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

stevasaurus 22,868 #7 Posted May 31, 2019 This adjustment for what you have is all external. No need to drop the trans. When you push in your clutch, the belt guard funnels the slack in the belt toward the drive pulley..and your input shaft will stop...thus being able to shift without grinding. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
