The Things People Throw Away

Was out at the local city dump a couple weeks ago (same day I bought my 753) and this older lady came out and wondered if one of us guys could come to her house and help her load up an old tiller she wanted hauled off. So I got in the truck and drove down to her house...this “old” tiller as she put it was actually bought last year...she used it once and put it up. Went to use it again this year and it wouldn’t start, so she figured it was junk and bought a new one. So I loaded it up, brought it to the shop, and after about 30 min of carb cleaning she runs like a champ.

WHX??

Sorry I can't like this thread Proff... we have seen some unretrievalable horses in the dump in the past and it sickens me. Only saving grace is what some grease monkeys like you and I were able to save. Let's just keep preying on the ingnorant and  trying to save old or even new machinery from a landfill or worse the scrapper.

Hate to tell you this buddy but maybe you should stalk her when the "new" one doesn't start either!

I know exactly what you mean, if I hadn’t been in the right spot at the right time this one was destined for the scrapyard the very next day

Ethanol fuel kills another one.Seems like you knew exactly where to go to fix this new tiller. The Predator engines have a sticker that says not to use fuel above E15.If the other manufacturers were not so obsessed with sales they would put a sticker on any new air cooled engine that states Use Ethanol Free Fuel Only.

Incredibly that is a common occurrence around here with snowblowers. I have gotten more than 10 like that. People buy them, use them once or twice in winter , then just forget them. Then next winter, of course they don't start. Most don't have a way to take them somewhere to fix, if they do they charge about $150.00 just to look a it. That plus an average of about another $150.00 for the repairs along with the fact that they do not have the snowblower when they will need it, is the deciding factor. Buy another one and to the curb with the old one.

Funny that should come up...this sticker was the first thing I noticed on the power washer I bought the other dayimage.jpg.83d2c0061fbe39f1ae90fe11f097a02e.jpg

It’s sad but that is the world we live in, where it’s cheaper to buy new than fix the old. Sad part is though I could have fixed it for her and not charged her more than $50  or so. I understand some shops have to charge high rates to keep the doors open, but I just do this evenings and weekends as a hobby. My full time job pays the bills, all the little side jobs I pick up are what pay for my WH addiction LOL
