Kohler governor

spacer.pngI've had a wanted posting running a few days but I'm still in a pickle. I need a bushing for a Kohler governor (model & spec in picture). It's item #25 in this diagram. There's no part # anywhere. I know the ID is 7/32" and Garry informed me that he found 5/16" in one of his IPL's. :thanks: I don't know if that's length or OD. In any case I need the 3rd dimension. It looks like I'm going to have to find a bushing and cut it to length. Does anybody have one of these apart and measure for me. The picture is fuzzy but it slips on the governor shaft, then a washer and then the external parts. I'm at pretty much a standstill on my 854 due to this. Thanks for any help. :)

Bob I've got an early k181 at home that we got in the auction pile last August. It's disassembled and I don't know if that bushing is there but I'll see if I can help you out when I get home. Give me an hour or two.

You are not supposed to have #25  Note there is no box around the number....

There are hundreds of spec #s for K181 I found only 3 that use that part.  Variation 99   One for Chamberlin Metal products and 2 for Allis Chalmers  Part number for what is worth is 232739

I just checked my NOS Kohler stash and don't have that part number, but there is one on  :techie-ebay: and the price is reasonable.

bob...contact @Shynon...he probably has what you need.  :occasion-xmas:  It would be from a K-181 that I gave back to him.

Here's the scoop guys. I was working on the regulating disc because it was cobbled up. Sometime during a test fit I heard something hit the cardboard that was under the tractor and I knew something had dropped. Not finding anything I found the parts drawing and saw the little spacer. I searched and searched and I did find the little washer but no spacer and knew something like that could roll to the next county. After discovering that one could be hard to find my wife and I both searched the entire garage floor moving things away from the wall and sweeping with a hand brush and dustpan. Nothing. I also checked the K-161 on my 500 Special thinking I could borrow one but it didn't have one. I was baffled. I didn't think the little washer would make the sound I heard hitting the cardboard so I did a test drop. It did sort of. I did the want ad posting and then this thread.

Thank you Eric but read on and you'll see that you can save the effort. I appreciate it. I would be curious if yours has one.

I didn't know about the square box around the number. At this point I was beginning to suspect that it was never there and you were one of the experts that I was hoping would respond. :thanks:

I'm now quite confident it was never there and wasn't used. You're the man Paul.

Thank you Richard. I couldn't find a part # until this thread was started and Paul posted. You did the leg work for me. Even though I'm confident it isn't needed that part is now on it's way to me just in case.

Great idea Steve. Thank you. But at this point I things are under control.

I really appreciate everyone responding. I told my wife that my Redsquare buddies would come to the rescue and I certainly got that one right. What a great group!!!!

One other good thing came out of this. My garage floor is super clean. :eusa-dance:

It's like I never left Steve. I'm already in the mode where I look forward to Memorial Day because it's the start of summer. In Florida I dreaded Memorial Day because.....well.....it's the start of summer.

Here's the latest for those interested. The part #232739 was delivered. It is not for a K-181. It's 5/16" long, 1/4" ID and 1/2" OD. The governor rod on my K-181 is 7/32" and 1/2" won't fit in the opening. I checked my K-341 and the shaft is 1/4". I'm not going to take it apart to see what's in there but I'm thinking this bushing is for the big block engines. The original parts manual for my 76 does not show a bushing on the 7 & 8hp but does on the 10-16hp. It identifies it as part # X-400-80 but if I researched it further I'd bet the new number is 232739. I'm heading out to reassemble things and I think it's safe to assume I never had a spacer. :)

From the 301 parts manual.  Several different sizes/types were used.

:wacko::wacko: Odd that your list says the X-400-80 is 3/8" OD. The one I received was 1/2"......BUT, the original Kohler packaging did have a cut in it so there's no way I could be certain that it was the right part in the package. Gotta love Ebay……. :)
