The ones that got away...

Pullstart

We were camping on the other side of the state this weekend, so of course I get a CL alert email and see I’m just an hour or so from a 312-8 for $200 with a deck!  I emailed him hoping I could swing by with the camper in tow today and grab it.  The ad was down the next morning.  I think I even convinced Mrs. Pullstart that we needed to get it!

Oh man....

It's tough to find inexpensive Horses here in Maine nowadays but they do pop up occasionally.

My best/worst example so far is actually an implement.

Couple years ago I saw a grader blade on CL for 30... Yeah 30... Dollars.

It would have been a 3 hour drive each way and I delayed a little too long.

I should have taken a day off and gone to get it.

We're not looking for any more tractors for now.

We have 4 running and usable.

Another as a rolling chassis next weekend.

And we have enough parts to make the big wheel C-series I've been thinking of.

You KNOW we’ll need to follow along on that one...

I was pretty happy today to find that I have the rear 15" rims on hand.

I swapped some new tires that I had (from an old camper) on to our utility trailer.

The rims from the old camper are the right bolt pattern and very narrow. Exactly what I need.

Soooooo ... a C-230/8 speed with 28" or 30" rears and 20" fronts?

I was fortunate enough to be that lucky buyer last spring with the 315-8 w/42" deck I got for a very similar price.  The seller just wanted it gone as they "upgraded" to a new green machine.  I happily took the "old" Wheel Horse off his hands.

I got my 417 like that. Guy was getting a green machine. The 417 Looked fantastic, not even any rips in the seat. Nice deck and an almost new plow. Only thing was it was missing one hubcap.

Look at the bright side, it probably went to a new first time :wh: owner who will start a whole new herd.             :ychain:

I have too many of these stories to recall...most recently was one nearly identical to yours.  It was about eight months ago and the guy had a 312-8 with a mower.  Started in the $500 range but it finally sold for $225...I missed it by only a day!  I was sitting and waiting on it just a little too long.  There are also many deals where I couldn’t scrounge up the cash or face the wife if I did. So I came up with a saying, “It’s only a good deal if you can capitalize on it!”  May not be true entirely but it makes me feel better when I miss out on a deal like you’ve described...

I'd say that's got some fair wisdom built into it.

Gracie's Dad

I was looking around in Chesaning on Saturday, but I didn't find any $200 dollar wheelhorse.
