aSingularity 13 #1 Posted May 25, 2019 Hey folks, I'm still new to the Wheel Horse world, having just bought my first 417a. So far i'm loving it. That said, i'm still a big Ford/Jacobsen tube frame fan. I have enough of those that the wife was leery about the red one.... Anyway, with my Fords, I have a homemade front bumper that just pins into the frame that tends to get used for pulling/pushing. I realized today, that I tend to use that a lot more than I thought I did, I actually missed that little bumper. I'm wondering what folks have done with their tractors as far as things like that. I plan to get under the thing here eventually and see if i can mimic that bumper somehow, but i'm curious what others have done. Also, toolboxes. I have a red steel box, about 2x1x1 that I have used as a toolbox on my tractors for ages. My plan was to mount it to the fender behind the seat, but that was shot by the fuel tank location.... I'm also wondering what folks have done with stuff like that. I have yet to get under the fenders of this little beast to see what she's really made of.
beehive 6 #2 Posted May 25, 2019 (edited) Have a look in the restorations, modifications. and customizations sections. May find some ideas there. Also sure someone will be on to chime in with an idea. Edited May 25, 2019 by beehive
Achto 27,913 #3 Posted May 25, 2019 Adding a bumper should be very easy. You could just make bracket like I did for my front weights. Use the existing holes in the front of the frame for the bracket and add your bumper on to it.

cschannuth 3,817 #5 Posted May 26, 2019 (edited) I have a couple of bolt ons that work well and one of those sweet weight hangers. Edited May 26, 2019 by cschannuth 2
Lee1977 6,868 #6 Posted May 26, 2019 I spaced mine 1/2" away from the frame on each side to keep it from infering with the mule drive. 2
aSingularity 13 #7 Posted May 28, 2019 I found this thread and I think that i'm going to try to mimic this in the back. That will give me the base that I need to mount the toolbox also with a few modifications. @Lee1977 thats pretty much exactly what I was thinking, but using square stock and a small 1 inch reciever mount welded to it.
Pullstart 63,201 #8 Posted June 1, 2019 The hanging weight I built for Putt Putt has a cross brace that rests against the front of the frame, and two SBC exhaust manifold bolts simply press in place to hold it to the tractor. There wasn’t much room underneath to get a nut, or maybe I was testing to see how long it would work... but I can remove the whole weight by simply picking it up a bit and pull the bolts (pins) out of the holes. Pullstart 63,201 #9 Posted June 1, 2019 Here’s a better picture... it helps explain what I couldn’t quite remember! The brackets are upside down angle iron, the horizontal pieces rest against the frame. The weight is cement filled. It’s not quite as heavy as cast iron, but Is still quite effective.
