It's a piece of bent round rod that bolts to the motor block, and it helps retain the belt on my Commando 8. Cant seem to find any of these anywhere. Thanks! J854D 137 #8 Posted May 24, 2019 The one on my 854 has been broken for a while. I would like to replace it sometime. It is a little different than the 5949 in the illustration though. It has a small flat plate with holes to bolt it to the engine. The round rod was welded to the plate. That’s where mine broke off. Perhaps mine is an earlier version of the 5949, but I see no reason why the style in the illustration wouldn’t work on my 854. -JD- Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
71_Bronco 1,072 #9 Posted May 25, 2019 Well, I'm a complete idiot. I never really looked hard at my motor, and when i did, it was in my dimly lit garage. jebbear 377 #11 Posted September 30, 2019 I just happened to stumble on to this old thread concerning the Part #5949 Belt Retainer. I am also in need of one of these as mine is completely missing from my 856 with an RM-366 mower deck. Does anyone know of a source for one of these? If not, I can probably fabricate one but not sure of the dimensions or rod diameter and whether or not is made out of any type of hardened steel or just any type of mild steel rod.
