Suburban 400 restoration

Hi folks, picked this up this evening.   Never done a tare down restoration, so this looked like a good one to do it on.  Engine fired on some starting fluid when I got it home, so that's a positive sign.  Prolly was a forum member I got it from, it's a small world after all.  Told the fiancee it would be hers, dont know why, but that's what I told her anyway...anywho just sharing.

           You may want to add some front weight to prevent it from doing wheelies.                   Got my wife a Suburban several years back and she loved it until it reared up one day, wouldn't get back on it after that.

And you got all the goodies with it too which are commonly missing. Belt guard, heat shield, gas tank, throttle/choke controls and the serial number plate. And you got the foot rests to boot

Yeah, it was listed on my local face book for sale ad, not too far away, couldn't pass on it.....

 

Anyone have any suggestions for an affordable portable sandblaster?  I think I told the fiancee it would be hers cause she has a better air compressor!!! Now that I recall

It might be a good idea to try an e-tank instead of blasting it, it you are planning on a total resto.

Thanks, I haven't done either before, I want it purtified, but not showroom perfect, if that's makes a difference.

Finished up mine a while back. Weather permitting I hope to take it to Mentone the weekend after Memorial Day. It will be it's first show.

I am not sure what an E Tank is but I have one of these from Northern tools and it works pretty good. Just need a pressure washer and some sand.It cleans well and no hazard of inhaling dust

I haven't set one up yet but we have all the stuff to do it at some point.

Soooooo, I started to break it down this morning,  figured I'd better stop and take some pics along the way, to remember how it goes back together.   Cleaned off some shelf space for pieces parts.

I made the decision to go with a sandblaster, read the good and the bad reviews of your basic harbor freight model, but for 116$ out the door, I figured it was worth a try.  My fiancee s air compressor turned out to be a bit undersized,  gonna have to rethink that relationship!!!!, but I have a buddy who offered up his old one for free, tossed him a 20$, said thankyou very much!!!

  Last summer i got a stick, and mig welder, i cant weld for crap, but some of the sheet metal could use some spit balling, so I'm set there.

Mine came with a hot rod S-10 and a race car,  I bet the air compressor would have been more cost effective!   😁
