71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted May 19, 2019 Was just curious if anybody here runs one of these on their machines, and why (or why not). My dad runs one on his bigger Kubota. Not sure how often he uses it (the knob) but I know he knows with the tractor every weekend.
pacer 3,175 #2 Posted May 19, 2019 One of the first things I add to a new tractor is a 'knob/spinner' I dont even wanna think about trying to steer with out one! Coupla pointers on them -- The one shown here is a heavy duty from TSC, they carry 2 types. This one has exposed screws/nuts on the clamp and with the threads/nut sticking out on bottom has peeled the hide off a hand a few times so I have changed over to the other type which has no exposed parts. They are $10/15 There are many other types on the bay, but I found that the lite weight ones with a plastic knob (they have a logo/pic inside) are pretty flimsy, and a couple were a booger to get it clamped to the wheel.
ebinmaine 70,718 #3 Posted May 19, 2019 I don't use them on any Horses but all of ours are B/C or smaller. No power steering to assist in turning the wheel. I DO use them on most of the forklifts at work and couldn't imagine driving one effectively without it.
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #4 Posted May 20, 2019 (edited) I have bought a few tractors that the previous owner installed them on. One thing that I don't like is on the soft rim steering wheels, it crushes and distorts the rim so that you have to leave it on. Otherwise there is a mar on the wheel. If left on, when you turn the wheel you bang your fingers on it if not using it. I only had one tractor that I did use it (PO once again installed it) and that was my 523Dxi that had hydraulic steering. It was so easy to steer with one hand all of the time.
