B80 4 Speed Belt--Too Short?

Recommended Posts

ET160

I got my transaxle back together, including a new 7473 belt, which seems to have a problem.

When I push down on the clutch lever the trans doesn't disengage, and I can't put it into gear.

Is the belt too short?  That's the only thing that I can think of.

You don't have the belt guard on do you?

I do.  I just bought another belt, so I'll see if that helps.  I thought the 7473 was right for my 1975 B80.

No happiness.  I changed the 7473 Toro belt (new) for a Napa B80 belt.  It disengages, but is very jerky letting off.

Does your belt guard have tabs on the front and are they adjusted to be very close to the belt.  They channel the belt to help disengagement.

Yes.  I got some more belts to try, some True Blue from Ace.  The 5/8 x 82 doesn't get me into gear.

The best so far has been a NAPA B80 5/8 x 83, but I took that back as it was jerky letting off.

I'm wondering whether 5/8 x 82.5 is maybe my best bet.  I see those exist.

I just don't understand why everything is so difficult.
