Grease-less deck?

Recommended Posts

Hello, all. Question for you 70's era model owners. Some time ago now, I had a 1974 B-100 with a 36"RD non-greaseable deck. I always seem to remember it being incredibly loud compared to my older and newer ones, even after replacing the bearings.
Anyway, I've had a wanted ad out for a 42" SD to run with a trac-vac unit on my various WH models. Fellow came along who wants to swap this deck for a snowblower of any sort to fit a WH .. and it just so happens I have one.
Anyway, the deck is a 42"SD with the sealed bearings. Can these units be interchanged with the later type spindle? I have bunches of those laying around. Really didn't care for the noise of my last one.

Hmmm, just the opposite here. After owning a few other brands of mower/decks with sealed bearings, and rarely having to change them, I started changing over my horses decks to sealed as I would do maintenance on them. It always irritated me to have to use most of a grease cartridge to get the spindle to the point that grease would finally get to the bearings. And clean-up!! yuck what a mess....
