The Tuul Crib 7,338 #2 Posted May 1, 2019 Well start with drive it thru all the gears and pay attention to see if it smokes. Listen to the motor for any nocking noises. Ask about any service records as well. My first WH was a 414-8 and is truly a super tractor . Send pics and to

gsummers 236 #5 Posted May 1, 2019 Looks to be in the right price range to me, as stated check it out good, no smoke on cold startup, run through all gears, no weird noises. Seems to be really complete with everything there. Dicker with the price a little and get a great tractor for a great price, take care of it and it will still be running great twenty years from now! JCM 10,017 #6 Posted May 1, 2019 414-8 is a nice low maintenance heavy duty tractor with the larger front 16x6.50 rims & tires, tractor weighs in at 658 lbs can't beat a well maintained 14 HP Kohler Magnum engine, hopefully the previous owner took care of it. Good Luck on your test run and WELCOME to REDSQUARE

biged77 113 #8 Posted May 2, 2019 I'm just down the road in Chattanooga. I have a 414-8 with 970 hours (hour meter is on the console) and it is still running great. That said, I have made many repairs which is expected on an old machine. Repairs are straightforward, this is a simple machine. The deck is usually the first thing that goes (rust through and spindle bearings, check these). I now have 4 horses, a 414-8, 416-8, 418-8 (minus engine) and a 310-8 for parts. You may get addicted like me, be careful. Note - The price looks reasonable, especially with the blade.

They tend to be magically attracted to each other. 1 hour ago, BigbillinTN said: Looking a fairly nice 414-8 tomorrow Good luck. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,243 #10 Posted May 2, 2019 If the engine is a K321 it is a 1986 model. If the engine is a M14 it is a 1987, 1988 or 1989 model. All excellent. Garry
BigbillinTN 5 #11 Posted May 2, 2019 Thanks, everyone for the insight... hopefully I can close the deal...
953 nut 57,898 #12 Posted May 2, 2019 That looks like a nice buy for a fair price. If it is well maintained it will provide several more decades of service. I smuggled my 310-8 in from Tennessee a few years ago, similar tractor with a few less HP and smaller wheels.
oliver2-44 10,367 #13 Posted May 2, 2019 As mentioned above, check the deck for signs of rust/rot through. If it has a lot of build up under it scrape some off and look underneath. Also ask if it has been stored indoors or covered. Check if the rubber boot on the top of the transmission is in good shape. If the boot is in bad shape/gone and stored out doors there's probable water in the transmission. Also the top of the transmission usually has a fair amount of grass crud built up on them. But if there's semi fresh dirty oil on top around the shifter, that typically indicates theirs enough water in the transmission that it's pushing the floating oil out through the shifter hole. a transmission with water in it can be cleaned up, but it's a major negotiating point.
