C Series w/ 60" Mower Deck

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever put a 60" mower deck under a C series tractor?  Would need to use a 520-H forward swept axle.

With a front axle swap I dont see any reason it couldn’t be done. I would think a 16hp Kohler single would be the smallest power plant you would want.

I have never done that but the frame for the 3/4/500 series machines are the same. The c series frame is almost identical with them so I don't see any reason it won't work if the swept axle is installed. I agree that at least a 16 horse is necessary and it should be in really good tune for heavy grass.

Only caution would be to run it gently -- not too fast over rougher terrain. 520's have been known to develop cracks in the frame from the weight of heavy 60" decks. 52xi's with their wider frames seemed to be the best match for the 60" deck.

There is a member here who has a 60" deck on his 416-H but he has the 6-inch wheels on it to clear it.  I have a swept axle on my C165 and can definitely put a 60" deck on it.  When I had my C195 w/60" deck, I was able to swap that deck on my C165 just for giggles.

That would be me! I have the 416 with factory six inch wheels, and 60” deck. Honestly it will turn about 90% until they hit.

I am currently working on this swap on my C-161 Twin.  All I have to do if mount my tires to the rims and get a set of tie rods made up.  I sent an email to wheel horse parts to see if he will make me a set of tie rods so I do not have to change the steering shaft.

Yup you need that 520 set up. I installed one on a 417-8 I used to have and now my 416-8 I am restoring.

Lets think outside the box; Rather then try and locate an expensive sweep axle or install little front wheels, why not extend the frame 3 to 4"? It's an easy and cheep thing to do.  I did it on my 867 because, at one time, I was going to put a modern 2 bladed  38" deck under it, but never did. I just cut the frame in-half under the motor and spliced in 2 equal 4" lengths of matching angle iron and then extended the steering shaft by the same amount. THAT'S IT!  Easy! Now the front of the frame and axle stick out a little from the hood grill which makes it look like the front of an 1950's Farmall with a wide front end.  Cool looking to an old farmer like me.

I know this is an old thread, but I’m curious if the  original author ever got the 60in mower deck to work?

I got mine to work.  Just make sure you have enough horse power and the forward swept axle conversation.

Thank you so much for the video. Looks like it working well. I have some questions:

what engine is powering this? Is it still the 22hp predator? How is it lasting?

it seems like you can’t drive to fast.

how fast can you mow? Like how many acres you mowing and how long about does it take? Thanks for answering my questions. :)
