Sparky-(Admin) 21,352 #1 Posted April 27, 2019 69 Commando 8/ Kohler k181. Need a new starter generator belt. Anyone know offhand the length and width? I’ll most likely get one from the local Tractor Supply store. Thanks!!
Sparky-(Admin) 21,352 #2 Posted April 27, 2019 Never mind guys....dragged my lazy butt into our manuals section and there was all the info I needed 2
oldredrider 2,548 #3 Posted April 27, 2019 We all have "lazy butt" moments. For those of us sharing you condition, what did you find out?
Retired Wrencher 5,469 #4 Posted April 27, 2019 What manual do you have some times with the old manuals # `s are defunct. I had a 857nso same #. I can check for you in the AM Mike.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,352 #5 Posted April 27, 2019 Found out it was a WH part #1583. That would make it a 3L-33 or 3/8”x33”. Also showed a Gates belt 3V-315 which would be 31.5” long. Not exactly sure what I’ll find at Tractor Supply. The old belt is 31.75 long so maybe a 3/8x32 offbrand belt?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,072 #6 Posted April 27, 2019 Crossed over the WH and Kohler belts to Gates and the suggested replacements are actually automotive belts with raw rubber sides. Click on the fuzzy picture Garry 1
oliver2-44 9,787 #7 Posted April 27, 2019 Just a though, that old belt has stretched a little, so you may want to go a tough shorter verses a little longer.

squonk 41,171 #9 Posted April 27, 2019 I use cogged automotive alternator belts on my starter gennys. I think Napa 25-7315 on my 857 Don't worry about belt stretch. They stretch very little. The sides and inside edge wear down giving the illusion that the belt has stretched a lot. In all reality the inside circumference of the belt got larger.
rjg854 11,393 #10 Posted April 28, 2019 3/8"x31.5" is what I use on my Commandos

Mike looks like you have it covered. Those #`s sound about right. I can still look today.
wallfish 17,023 #12 Posted April 28, 2019 Tractor Supply has them over where the steel pulleys are. You won't find them in the lawnmower belt section of the store. I used a 3/8 x 32". You can order 31.5 cogged belts off epay
Sparky-(Admin) 21,352 #13 Posted April 28, 2019 So ended up with this one from Autozone. I’ll report back if it works well or it.
squonk 41,171 #14 Posted April 28, 2019 That belt crosses to a Napa 25-9319 which is 32.38" Long.Top width .47" The 25-7315 I used on my 8 HP is 32.08" with a top width of ..41" It sets right in the middle of the tension adjustment range.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,352 #15 Posted April 28, 2019 Hmmm...so this belt just barely fits? Starter gen is almost up against the motor 🤔. It was a fight just to get it on.
squonk 41,171 #16 Posted April 28, 2019 Belt width too wide. Do you have a Napa near by or maybe AutoZone can cross ref a Napa 25-7315?

Actually Sparks, I'm running a 25-7320 as My store did not have the 15. The 7320 is 32.5 " long. I'm thinking the 15 would have been perfect but the 20 leaves plenty of adjustment.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,352 #19 Posted April 28, 2019 @squonk ... thanks for the belt info. My local NAPA can get me the 25-7320 for tomorrow.
squonk 41,171 #20 Posted April 28, 2019 When you pick it up, tell those hosebags there it should have been in stock. I love doing that. The Napa I used to work at moved in to a "Big Box" building. Tying to take advantage of the local stinky landfill across the street and stocking all the big tools and HD Truck stuff. They skimped on the little things. They hardly ever have what I need when I go in and have to order it. Then when it comes in they can't find where they put it. I wait for the store owner to be there and raise a fuss. "When I ran this place we had it!" Pisses the owner off but I don't care. I still have people coming up to me saying "Boy , I wish you were still there!" 2

So I flew to Virginia for the day so my wife picked it up. There was no way she was gonna tell the guy that they shoulda had it in stock . The Autozone belt (that didn’t work) was like $7.50, this gold infused NAPA belt was over $24!!! GULP! Sure hope it does the trick.
