Well, even though I really didn't want to make any modifications to this tractor; due to the equipment control level & plunger rubbing on the tractor, I made a few, unnoticeable when assembled, modifications. Why put on new paint just to wear it off?

102_1016.jpg

To fix this, first I welded up the wear on the control lever shaft & pin boss on right side of tractor.

102_1015.jpg

This did little to prevent the scouring, so in order to keep the handle away from the tractor, I welded a stop washer to control lever shaft to hold clearance between tractor and lever. It's hard to tell in the picture, but that is a flat tip screw driver stuck in clearance.

To keep plunger from coming out and rubbing on tractor .................

102_1018.jpg

I concaved bottom of lever (about 1/4") as a guide for inner pushrod. This had been flattened when originally built. I just over-flattened.

This worked except when plunger was pushed to bottom. So, I built a stop similar to a plug in a shotgun magazine to limit the stroke of plunger. It allows enough travel so everything works. But, stops plunger short of rubbing on tractor

I have a question - on the rear hitch [snow plow/tiller] bracket, is that mounted right? I don't have the older tractors but on my 520's it doesn't mount that way.

Just curious :notworthy:

well, I have a 655 and its not mounted like that on it either, which was kind of confusing since I was trying to copy it when trying to put this one back together and it wouldn't fit, thankfully I took lots of pictures before disassembly. So right or wrong this is the way it was when I got it. and i used the plow before project started.

Interesting, I can see that it would work for the plow. Just not a tiller.

Interesting, I can see that it would work for the plow. Just not a tiller.

That's because back in 1966/67/68 etc. when this type of dozer blade mount was used, the tillers had their own specific rear axle attachment bracket. The modern Attach-Matic style hitch never arrived until 1970-ish.

The blade mount like the one pictured above actually goes on the outside of the blade "A" frame too. (instead of inside like the newer version)
