pfrederi 17,663 #2 Posted April 17, 2019 Interesting..I suppose if i had a Muncie 4 spd Hurst shifter in a 396 Chevelle with a 4.11 rear end all this might make a difference. For a 8 speed WH with 12 hp not so much.... 1

You're right though. in all seriousness, I think as long as we had SOME kind of oil in the transmission of a Wheelhorse it would be happy....

I am with you on that EB. I managed the maintenance on 6 figure gear boxes for years. The last place you want to seek advice is from the oil guys. You have heard the term "selling snake oil". All manufactures of gear cases spec the oil per the function of the box . Stick to a manufactures specification for oil over brand. The only thing that stood out in oils are the synthetics, we had noticeable trending in heat reduction when switched over. The gearboxes we used were taken out of service on a cyclic basis, disassembled, inspected, repaired, and cycled back into service. It allowed for pretty interesting lubrication evaluations. Like you said, the "lack of" brand of oil causes the most failures.
