wessex horse 15 #1 Posted April 13, 2019 Hi all, I am attempting to patch up a secondhand mower deck; my welding skills are not great, so we'll leave that option aside for a mo. Looking from the underneath, to the front, there are those two curved sections, or diverters, my question is, what will happen to the mower action if I simply remove what left of them? It's only needed for rough cuts in a paddock area, so I do not need a super finish, its rear discharge not side, 36 inch deck. personally I can't see it would make a lot of difference,except it would save me time from cocking it all up. Has anyone done this? Seems to me the rot starts with the trapped grass cuttings corroding it all when they get inside. TIA chaps Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Lee1977 6,644 #2 Posted April 13, 2019 Your not expecting a finish cut so I think it will do what you need with the sections removed. I don't have a rear discharge deck, but I do have a 48" side discharge deck with baffles removed with the height set mid way it does a fair cut. It will miss a seed head ever so often. HOWEVER...u otta run a THICK BEAD of silicone sealant . prevent electrolysis. let the silicone fill the threads too...sol the steel bolts minimize corrosion too and can later be removed easily.
