GT-1848 deck

Recommended Posts

Hello, all. Quick question about WorkHorses'. Have my eyes on a 1983 GT-1848 with what looks to be a solid 48" deck. I've been wanting a 48" for a while and the tractor is icing on the cake. However, I read a post or two, that claim the 48" deck on the WorkHorse has no baffles? Has anyone got one that could say otherwise? I don't see how an SD would work at all without baffling under it. I would mainly be using it with a Trac-Vac type unit so it would make a difference there.

Far as I know they are identical except maybe for the paint. I recall seeing a service bulletin where they assigned different model numbers for the GT-series of decks but forget why. It was possibly because the tractors came with the deck where most other tractors did not. Click on the picture.

The baffles most likely came loose and  were removed. I have a 48" deck that the baffles have been removed.  If you like to mow the grass at the highest setting it will not make you happy with a good looking cut.  At the middle setting it dose a fair job. It will miss some seed head and will not throw all the grass out from under the deck with heavy or tall grass. My deck is 41 years old and has not missed a year of mowing two to three acres since 1977.
