520H - Motion Lever Linkage Broken

Recommended Posts

TC10284

Hope this is the correct sub-forum...

Just got a 73501 520H running today. My next problem is that the motion lever linkage is broken or disconnected. I'm going to assume broken as there was a lot of corrosion and rust under the dash.

My issue is that I cannot get the right-hand side panel off or the lower dash sheet metal off. The screws are frozen/rusted and that's keeping me from accessing what I need to. I'm pretty sure I need to remove the lower sheet metal on the dash in order to access the linkage area to fix.

Have you guys ran into this and do you have any tips of getting those screws unstuck? PB Blaster has already been applied.

The nuts that the screws are in are what as known as tinnerman nuts. They will not rotate while removing the screw.I would use a pair of vise grip pliers on the head of the screw.I always replace the screws with button head stainless screws. The main motion lever is attached with a ball and socket unit.I hope this is not broken as a new one is over $75.00 dollars.

I'll try that, but a couple actually are spinning on the back side now that I've tried to use so much force. So possibly vise grips on the back side too.

I may get flamed for this but just grind off the heads of the screws.Once the cover is removed you can remove the tinnerman nut with a screwdriver or pliers.

To me life is to short to spend hours with a $0.50 part.

If you need to deal with the motion control issues the only panel you need to deal with is the flat plate that is in front of the seat area.

Finally got some more time to work on this one.

I was finally able to get the bottom two screws out of the bottom metal plate to get to the linkage.

Here is what I found (first four pics on top):

I just so happen to have another 520H for parts with a working linkage. My problem is that I cannot seem to get it removed. The bottom four pics in the link above show the nut to the good linkage. But it is quite difficult to get a socket wrench in there. I managed to get my socket wrench on there a few times, but it wouldn't budge.

Is there a trick to this that I'm missing?

Too bad shipping is what it is from Canada.

I have some of those sitting here gathering dust since I have installed Matt's foot control which does not use that linkage so it gets removed.

Possibly interested.

What is a cost estimate?

And I should also add, I can't get the nuts off either 520H.

Well, I give up. I must have gotten rid of them because I cannot find them anywhere.

If they show up I will let you know.

Sorry about that.

No worries. Thanks anyway!

I worked on it again today and was finally able to get the broken one off, and the working one off the parts tractor. Now to put it back on, which will hopefully be easier than removal!
