953 nut 56,093 #2 Posted April 6, 2019 May want to put a spacer under the spring where it bolts to the transmission.
stevasaurus 22,904 #3 Posted April 6, 2019 Just a question. Do you have the spring mounted correctly? The bend should face the front of the horse. I guess you could spacer the spring from the transmission, but I think I would rather spacer the seat from the spring...maybe a nice 3/4" piece of plywood. If you spacer the spring from the transmission, you need to be very careful how much bolt you put into the trans. I believe the original is like 3/4" into the case of the trans, any more and you could interfere with the differential.
squonk 41,604 #4 Posted April 6, 2019 I made a metal block to space the seat. I think @Lane Ranger has a pick of a block he used.
formariz 11,988 #5 Posted April 6, 2019 Not to fix rubbing but rather height I used a piece of uni strut to raise the seat 2" on my RJ. That will also eliminate fender rubbing.

peter lena 8,824 #7 Posted April 6, 2019 love the UNI STRUT application , uni strut is like what metal used to be , bombproof with no failures , pete
oliver2-44 9,909 #8 Posted April 7, 2019 A piece of 2x4 rectangular tubing also makes a nice spacer
Lane Ranger 11,014 #9 Posted April 7, 2019 The tubing fix works great on top of seat springs and under the seat to lift the seat pan off of the fenders. Seat springs do wear with time and settle lower. 4
peter lena 8,824 #10 Posted April 7, 2019 LANE RANGER , thank you for you upgrade fix, i went to a larger / stiffer spring like on the craftsman riders,https://www.amazon.com/Mtd-732-04849-SPR-Equipment-Manufacturer/dp/B00DEI7R7O/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=craftsman+tractor+seat+springs&qid=1554640201&s=gateway&sr=8-10 . this type has the small top wound mounting hole that really helps in attachment. i also added a piece of conveyor belting on seat pan contact point to eliminate scratching wear points. we all come up with a fix to correct things, most important ,is that you got after it pete
peter lena 8,824 #11 Posted April 7, 2019 FORMARIZ , back in the day ,as a millwright we had to adapt to any problem to keep production running. in the stock room area , we had walls covered with WW2 large ammo boxes , filled with every type of UNI /STRUT FITTINGS, AS WELL AS, RISER CLAMPS , CABLE MOUNTS , FLANGES ,ETC. being a non union plant , we were cross trained in all trades, production was paramount to your job. while you were going thru it , it was nuts and exhausting , but the irony of it was the constant repetition of adapting to maintenance failures and eliminating a problem, unless you liked call ins , not me. having a genuine spare part to me is like , what can i do to make this better ? that,s one of the reasons i love horses , very solid , just needs some tweaking to make it my own , pete
ronhatch 406 #12 Posted April 7, 2019 (edited) Ray, I would recommend that you use a spacer that's as wide as the spring and long enough so the seat is as stable as it was originally. Not doing so will put undue stress on the steel around the bolt area and may eventually crack the seat. I used a 1" thick solid block of Aluminium that was as wide as the spring.
