Pullstart 62,883 #1 Posted April 4, 2019 I called on a “free firewood p” posting on CL and it was advertised as easy access. I called, let him know I had a truck, dump trailer and saw ready to go and could be on the way soon. He was good was that, and I asked if I could drive up to the wood. He hesitated, then asked if I know how to drive a tractor. “Well, yes I do!” As long as I don’t scratch the tractor or outside of the bucket, I’m allowed to use his loader tractor. Well, here I am heading to dump one load, get him some fuel and cut another load before the day’s over! Would you you tell someone to com over and grab the tractor f on a CL ad, when you’re not there? I can tell you I wouldn’t! 12 5

oldredrider 2,548 #3 Posted April 4, 2019 The only thing better would be if he delivered and stacked the wood then gave you the tractor! 3
Pullstart 62,883 #4 Posted April 4, 2019 Load number two. This little diesel absolutely sips the fuel. I hauled all this around his yard with less than a gallon. What is this, cherry? Most of the first load was ash.

LengerichKA88 1,883 #9 Posted April 4, 2019 That is a very trusting individual. Used to be everyone was like that, but even I wouldn’t be that gracious to a stranger without me being there nowadays. I’d be afraid the tractor would be gone when I got back.
Pullstart 62,883 #10 Posted April 4, 2019 I guess with a phone number and iPad address, he could track me if he had to, but yeah... I don’t give an address to CL “customers” unless I am home. His wife and kids were there for a while in the beginning butI was there alone most of the day.
953 nut 55,230 #11 Posted April 4, 2019 Any C'List business I do (buying or selling) I meet the person in a public place. Most people are great to deal with, but this way we are both starting out in a comfortable setting. I guess the fellow wanted to be sure you took all the fire wood.

Ed Kennell 38,177 #13 Posted April 5, 2019 That's a great deal, but when I cut 4 big maples for my neighbor, he loaded them with his back hoe and delivered them on his dump truck. 3

You know, that is an amazing idea! In the excitement of the day, I never thought about syrup. How could I not, right?
tunahead72 2,412 #16 Posted April 5, 2019 As a big fan of maple syrup products, I say it's never too late to make the offer.
Pullstart 62,883 #17 Posted April 5, 2019 I’ll be back next week to take the rest of the dead and down, along with a couple standing dead. One ash tree is leaning into another cherry, but completely snapped off at the base. I’ll pull that one down with the loader.
Pullstart 62,883 #18 Posted April 8, 2019 Well, he sold the tractor this weekend (how rude) but I was able to grab a decent load of dead ash and some maple. Still not a bad day! 1
WHNJ701 4,165 #19 Posted April 8, 2019 you should have bought that tractor instead!

I am willing to take a gamble on the cheap one. I did look at the backhoe and loader brackets, I have a feeling they could be adapted to the AC with a little work. tunahead72 2,412 #21 Posted April 8, 2019 That's … weird? That could have ended up as a heck of a mess if you had damaged the tractor. Not only would the previous owner be angry that you damaged his really nice tractor, but so would the new owner. Oh well, no harm, no foul.
